I overheard two women debating cribs. One was getting a $400 crib. The other said it was a waste of money, and that all cribs have to meet the same safety rules, and you can get one for $100 that will work just as well. The $400 crib woman said that expensive cribs are often safer. I hadn't heard of this. Is there any benefit to a more expensive crib other than cosmetics?

I don't know about safety per se...
We have a higher end crib in our home and a cheaper ($160) crib at my parents. Aside from the quality of wood, we haven't had any issues with either.

i wouldn't think that one would be safer than another. i just think quality of materials is the difference.

All cribs that are on the market today pass the same safety standards. One might look prettier or more modern, or be made of solid wood instead of pressed or whatever, but they've been through the same safety tests and whatnot.

I would imagine the materials & workmanship make up the difference. They all have to meet a minimum safety standard. Perhaps the more expensive one is rated for heavier kids? I don't know.

My understanding is that all cribs sold in the US meet the same standard. Fun fact! The european standards are higher so if you get an Ikea crib it's actually "safer"
