We don't have a chair in his room, but we do have a comfy recliner that rocks in our living room.

@loki: I think you NEED a comfortable place to sit in the nursery. It doesn't have to be a glider but it needs to be someplace you can comfortably feed and hold the baby for a long time. We have a glider in the living room, comfy reclining couch (also in living room) and a bed in the nursery. We only have the bed in there because we already had it and didn't want to get rid of it but t is so nice to have! I used to sit in there to nurse her at night, and now when she wakes up way too early one of us will go in and snuggle with her to get her back to sleep.

And C never really was soothed by the glider. It's a really comfortable chair for me but the only motion that soothed her was bouncing on the damn exercise ball. Oh we had such a love/hate relationship with that ball!

pretty even split! it sounds like maybe it's something i can wait on, see how baby is and get once she's a bit older. we have a bit of cash coming our way in january so if we have a lot leftover maybe we'll splurge! thanks everyone! i think i want one but probably don't need to decide right now..

I am planning on something like this Eddie Bauer one from Target for 399. I don't want just a nursery rocker because I don't feel like I would use it as much.

With my DD I never had a glider. Wasn't gonna get one for DS either but I inherited one from my great grandma and I love it!!!! When DS is tired but won't sleep we sit in the glider and he's sleeping in a matter of minutes!

YES BUY A GLIDER. lol. I can't tell you how much I love ours. Used it for nursing, sitting up nights, and now rocking for naps. I've spent 8 hrs in a row in it overnight and currently spend 4-5 hrs/day in it for naps. I would die without it.

We didn't use ours much in the early days but as soon as we moved him to his room we've used it nightly still do at 14 months

@loki: we have this one with the matching ottoman: http://m.toysrus.com/skava/static/product.html?type=TRU_product_us&url=%2Fproduct%2Findex.jsp%3FproductId%3D23701056%26cp%3D2255957.2273443.2256245.50629046.50628856.50628876%26parentPage%3Dfamily&domain=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.toysrus.com

It's more than you want to spend (and cost more than every other thing I bought for the nursery combine) but it's hard to put a price on a happy ass. We visited my parents last month and I had to do without it for 2 days and it was awful lol

@Mae: ugh that is SOOOO nice! i love it!!! we might have to splurge! i just spent $100 for a deer head for the nursery... probably shoulda used that money on a chair! haha.

@loki: yea we skimped on everything else. $100 crib from amazon, changing table and dresser from cl that I painted. Bookcase made by fil. I made the curtains and mobile and art. But it's still cute and I am limited in how long I can rock her only by my bladder, not by my butt falling asleep or back hurting.

my LO didn't like to be rocked, so our expensive plush glider went unused. I would have preferred a rocking option in the living room and not the nursery anyways since she didn't sleep in her nursery for the longest time. For me, I wish we would have saved our money.

We didn't use it much during the first 6 weeks or so, but now, at 12 weeks, I'm so happy we have one! My DS is not the best napper, but I can get him to stretch out a crappy catnap in our rocking chair. We have one with a high back and large wings (from PBK) and I have taken some good naps in there over the past few weeks

I loved having a rocker. Another option is to get a used one and have new cushions made. We got a used dutilier and new cushions and it worked great for us

We didn't use our rocker recliner until DS was around 6 months old but I don't know what we would do without it now.

I love having a rocker to nurse LO in at night, I found it used for $40 which was a steal!

I had an armchair of sorts in the early days but once LO and I got the hang of nursing we ditched the chair and sat or lay on the twin bed in her room. For us, a glider would have been a waste of money.

I was going to skip it b/c they seem to be either a) ugly or b) expensive. But my friend looked at me in horror when I shared this and talked for awhile about how nice it was to have a comfortable spot for feedings and what not. She convinced me to buy one.

I went to some baby store in hopes of finding a non-hideous looking chair. The upholstered rocking chair was nice and comfortable, but when I sat in the glider, there was no comparison--being able to rest your head back is great.

The reviews on Amazon for the cheapest glider were pretty split, so I went up a little bit, near $200 for glider and ottoman. I also wanted an ottoman with a pull out stool for nursing.

Good luck shopping, and share pictures of what you find! I see a lot of used ones on Craigslist.

A comfy chair somewhere in your abode is a must-have. I could do without the glider in LO's room. She hated it as a newborn but likes it now for bedtime stories & climbing (at almost 2 years). I never once succeeded at rocking LO to sleep or back to sleep or sleeping in the chair with LO. She was more likely to sleep stationary or on the exercise ball.

I got mine from Craigslist and it is suiting us just fine. I wouldn't be happy if I spent hundred of dollars on it.

I don't have one and I don't miss it. I have a (non-rocking) chair from Ikea in the nursery, but I mostly nurse DD either in bed or on the living room couch.

Personally I'd put a chair in the nursery that is at least comfortable (What use is a chair you won't sit in?), or use the space for something else... but I put practicality over aesthetics (I try to have both lol).
