I was doing some research on the minipill, and came across so info on breastfeeding as birth control. It said that if you're EBF and under 6 months pp, than you are considered 98% protected against pregnancy. Is anyone or has anyone relyed totally on BF as their BC? I don't know that I have that much faith in BF as BC . It seems like I've heard about a lot of people getting pregnant while BF. But then again, I've heard of quite a few people getting pregnant on the minipill....

I used BF as BC. I got my period back at 7 months pp, but DH and I were open to having another baby so I didn't use any back up. I got pregnant at 12 months pp. Yay!

I am not on any BC. We trusted BFing up until 6 months but now that we are going longer stretches we are going to use other natural methods.

My OB told me that I could still get pregnant even though I am breastfeeding and even if my period hasnt started again. I do know several people who got pregnant while breastfeeding so I wouldnt trust breastfeeding as reliable form of birth control

I could never trust it because I know a few people that relied on that and got pregnant almost immediately after having their child.

The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding says the same thing, I found it intriguing that they tout that as effective BC just because every other doctor and my midwives said not to rely on it 100%.
The mom that I nanny for relied on BF as BC, and she didn't get pregnant for three years! She also coslept, and I've heard that can contribute to it hormonally.
But I'm not relying on it just cause I REALLY don't want to get pregnant again. So we'll probably use condoms cause the mini pill sounds like it could be hard to use - you have to take it at exactly the same time every day or it becomes ineffective and I'm so bad at remembering to take pills.

I started the minipill because I am so not ready to even take the chance of getting pregnant again so soon. My LO is 2 1/2 months.
I do know that my mom got pregnant with me when my sister was 6 months - strictly BF.
