We are not religious so we are just celebrating holiday cheer, spending time with loved ones, lights, reindeers, Santa, trees and countdowns.

Most definitely! While we partake in all of the holiday cheer/spirit (including Santa), our main focus is celebrating Jesus' birth!

Nope, totally secular for us. We are two former Christians who love the traditions and the time to appreciate family and friends.

Yep!! I didn't grow up as a Christian so it's been fun making traditions with dh to make the time really special.

Yes, that's the main focus of Christmas for us -- the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. That said I don't actually believe Jesus was born in the month of December -- but it's the time of year we celebrate it all the same.

Not religious; however we will not embrace all of the secular traditions.
pomelo / 5678 posts
For sure! I think if it wasn't (for us) I'd probably just celebrate new year (with gifts etc.)
eggplant / 11824 posts
We're atheists, so no. The focus of Christmas for us is on giving and being thankful and celebrating the magic of the season with family and friends.

I'm Jewish but it is more of a cultural affiliation and I am not religious. My MIL is really into her church. My husband likes Christmas but is really NOT into my MIL's church. So, we have a Christmas tree with Hanukkah lights on it.

Yes, Jesus is the main focus of this season for us, but we are also all about Santa (and we don't event have kids yet...), reindeer, Christmas movies and all of the other non-religious traditions too!

...sort of? Mostly it's about cheer and family and tradition, although I do use it as a reminder to give extra thanks to God. But I can't get past the fact that the date of Jesus' birth was changed to line up with the pagan solstice holiday creating Christmas as we know it-- which makes celebrating it as the day of Jesus' birth sort of pointless IMO.

We are Christians, so yes absolutely! It's the main reason for the season for us.

I remember sitting under the tree as a kid looking at a nativity puzzle someone gave us and being really confused about what that had to do with what I knew of as Christmas and deciding that it must be because both scenes have presents and stars on top.....
So, nope.

Nope. Secular Christmas for us. I do love the classic Christmas carols though!

Nope but MIL pretends to be...
So she'll probably say a prayer at dinner even though it'll be at our house.

@Mae: This is sort of my take, too. For me it's like 75% secular/25% religious.
cantaloupe / 6164 posts
Yes! Our main focus is on the birth of Jesus and giving/kindness, but we also do the tree, Santa, presents, etc.!
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
No, but used to be, and I feel the void of it a lot this time of year.
pomegranate / 3113 posts
Totally secular. I just love the holiday cheer and traditions this time of year. Christmas isn't really celebrated where my DH is from, so he finds the whole thing kind of odd but humors me. New Years is big in his culture, so we try to celebrate both.

That's not the main focus, but we do have a nativity we set out (we have a wooden one so Liam can play with it) and we go to church on Christmas Eve. Liam is in preschool at a Catholic church, so he learns a little bit of the religious side, too, and we talk about it a bit.
nectarine / 2878 posts
Yes, but less focus on Jesus' birth and more focus on family and being thankful for everything God has blessed us with.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
Nope we are not religious. Just Santa, family, Elf on the shelf, cookie decorating and all the other stuff that goes along with this time of year!
bananas / 9973 posts
Nope. Just a wonderful festive season/day to spend with the ones you love. I love the spirit of the holidays and tradition, but neither of us have ever been religious.

Yes, while we do enjoy Santa, lights, cookies, movies, family, ect. We are big into letting LO know the reason for us celebrating the season is the birth of our Savior.
pomelo / 5257 posts
It is for my parents, not for us. But we do still go to church with them.
papaya / 10570 posts
No. I am a former Christian - current agnostic - and while I really miss the religious side of Christmas I knew when I married a staunch atheist that those things were not going to be part of our family traditions.
pineapple / 12053 posts
yep! we celebrate jesus' birth and the gift of grace as well as partaking in the decor, santa, presents aspect. we hope to keep those in parts in check and incorporate more charitable giving (of time and money) as LO grows!
pomelo / 5607 posts
Nope, I'm an atheist, even though I was raised fundamentalist. It's still my most favorite time of the year though! And when we have kids I'll at least have a nativity in the house and explain to them the religious aspects as well as the secular. And I'll teach them about Hannukah and other religious holidays as well.
