I personally wouldn't give medicine prophylactically. I know too much Tylenol can affect the liver, but I have no idea how much is too much.

Personally I feel it might be a lot to give, however I've always been more conservative about when to give medicine, including for myself.

My ped recommended letting some of the low-grade fevers (under 100) run their course so L's body learns to fight the infection of by itself. He said something about how a fever is part of the body's natural defense.

What did your ped recommend?

I wouldn't give it that often, even to an adult. Have you tried alternative methods?

Yeah... no way would I give it that much. Do some research on how Tylenol REALLY effects the liver and you'll never want to give it to her again.

If you're concerned she's in pain maybe you should hold off on sleep training instead of giving her medication "just in case." I wouldn't want to be left alone, crying if I was in pain (I'm totally biased though, since i don't believe in sleep training, lol)

There have been stretches that we've had to do this for teething. It never lasts more than a few weeks. And we almost always use a lower dose than their weight allows, just enough to quell the pain. We don't give for mild fevers, only if they are really hot.

Honestly, I don't worry about it. I try not to give it preventatively, but if it makes the difference between them screaming their heads off and being happy, I think the benefit outweighs any small risk. We use aromatherapy and homeopathy too, but sometimes it just doesn't cut it.

My ped says as long as you aren't ODing her, it's safe.

I only had a short period where I had to give it to her nightly.

I recently found out acetaminophen is a class C pregnancy drug (it can/will cause liver damage in fetuses) so I don't like using it at. all! We really try homeopathic remedies for pain & fever before using Tylenol.

@Navy_Mommy: I took that as a warning to the parents who use it for a high fever for longer than that - as in, have the doctor check things out if your child still has something going on. I did ask my ped, who said one dose at night during the days or week the tooth was cutting was ok.

Sorry, it is tough trying to type on my phone with the baby on my lap. Haha. I do not give Tylenol or Motrin if she's just fussing, only at night if she's inconsolable and nothing else has worked.

@sorrycharlie: G is almost 9... I couldn't tell you how many nights I wished there was something I could give him to knock out! Bah!

Oh & G was the kid that would get wired out from Benadryl so even when he needs he I avoid it like the plague! Lol

We do it a few nights in a row when she is teething. We asked our ped about it and he said as long as she wasn't exceeding the daily limits, it was fine.

Teething tablets, gels, etc did NOTHING for us.

@sorrycharlie: Nope. Youre not. I feel like the other junkdidnt work for us and Id rather help her out when shes in pai n than listen to her cry. Gotta do what you gotta do.

I only give Tylenol on occasions of fever or severe teething crying but I don't think you did any damage so long as you tone it down from here on out.

@runsyellowlites: Benadryl makes W act like adrunk frat boy... randomly dancing, pulling off his clothes, stumbling, and babbling incoherently (he's 15 months, lol). It was MISERABLE when he developed a whole body rash and we didn't know the cause.

This post makes me feel so guilty! I have given Tylenol (although according to weight a lower dose as rec by the pedi) more nights than not the last like at least six weeks. Dd's teeth come in excruciatingly slow. For example one that cut six weeks ago is still maybe half out? And I have seen the same 3 white bumps for at least two weeks. Some nights without Tylenol she just stays up chewing her pacis or I give her a teether or Sophie and fussing a lot. :(. Gonna have to find a different way to get her to sleep I guess.

@googly-eyes: don't feel guilty for not knowing sweet momma! You just wanted your baby out of pain. I wish pediatricians were more specific about things like this. They make children's Tylenol seem like its just sugar water and not a drug
