I'm going to be 35 weeks pregnant at my cousins wedding in May and I've been looking for a dress for awhile. I think I found something that I actually like and could work on my huge preggo belly, but it's the same color as the bridesmaid's dresses (navy). Is this a faux pas or not a big deal?

Navy is such a common color. If it was like bright purple or something, I might suggest something else, but I doubt anyone will notice with navy.

I think most people don't even know the bridesmaid dress color so I really think you're fine.

@Miss Ariel: Agree! Unless I'm a bridesmaid or very close friend, I never know the colors. So it's always possible to show up in tbe same color.
And I agree with @catlady: that navy is such a common color, I'm sure you won't be the only one in a navy dress! -
I agree that most people don't know the color of the bridesmaids' dresses beforehand. I once showed up to a wedding wearing the exact same dress as the bridesmaids.

I accidentally wore the exact same color as the bridesmaid! (turquoise blue) I had no idea that was going to be the color.
Also she did the thing were the bridesmaid didn't have to wear the exact same dress just the color so I totally looked like I could be a bridesmaid.
It wasn't a big deal at all.

Not a big deal at all, 90% of the time I don't know what the bridesmaids are wearing anyway.

Guests don't usually know what color the bridesmaids dresses are anyways. You'll be totally fine!

I would gauge my response on the bride. If you think it'd be a big deal to her, then I wouldn't do it.

It's no big deal like others said, but if I knew the color/dress ahead of time, I'd only wear the dress if style was drastically different (just personal preference).

We live close to each other and get together often, so we've talked a lot about wedding planning, colors etc. But I also feel like navy is a really common color, and it's hard enough finding something while super pregnant! On the other hand, I'm not sure if I'd be committing some huge etiquette sin

I've worn navy to weddings where the bridesmaids wore navy (I didn't know in advance - I love the color navy and half of my wardrobe is navy!). I think if it is a common color like navy or black, it's totally acceptable. I joked with the bride at the last one that if something happened to one of her bridesmaids, I was ready to hop in.

navy is a total neutral, so nbd. also, guests rarely even know the bridesmaid dress color ahead of time.

I think as long as you're just a guest, it's fine - my sister-in-law, who I have no relationship with, showed up at our wedding wearing a floor length strapless dress in the exact same sage green as my bridesmaids, whose dresses were tea length, and the pictures with her in them look a bit weird.

I would generally try to avoid it if feasible, but at 35 weeks you get to wear anything you like and deserve congratulations for finding anything comfortable and flattering, regardless of color.

I have accidentally worn the bridal party color a number of times (how was I supposed to know)? While I didn't like it, the bride always has gotten a good laugh. I wouldn't worry about it.

@MCD919: Navy is fine. My bridesmaids wore black and there were obviously several guests wearing the same color. It was fine!

I think navy is safer than a more distinct color. At the last wedding I went to, the wife of one of the groomsmen wore the same color as the bridesmaids which was bright purple and it came across as pretty awkward like she wanted to be part of the bridal party!

No big deal! Especially when the colour of choice is navy or black!

@agold: me too. Random people came up and asked me questions about the wedding. As long as it is not THE bridesmaids dress you are good.

@youboots: Ha! So funny it happened to you. People were also asking me things about the wedding! It was just a dress from white house/black market. I would have never thought it was the bridesmaid dresses.

NO BIg deal! Most of the time people have no idea what the bridesmaids will be wearing, plus NAVY is so common! It'll look good in pictures too, lol. If you're worried, add a colourful beaded necklace or scarf and shoes to offset yourself from the girls.

@MCD919: I might be more of a no no if it were a very particular shade of yellow or something. But navy. 90% of the women will wear navy, black, or a combo with black and white or black and red. So no harm wearing navy!

Ha, I have family who do this on purpose, which I find annoying, but only because it's them. Accidental matching, or matching because it is what will work for you, is totally OK. Going out of your way to match?? Eh.

Thanks ladies! I honestly don't think I would've cared or really noticed if a guest wore the color of our dresses, which was eggplant purple! If it was one of the moms or something, yes I could see some people being bothered... Thanks for your feedback !
