I think part of this might depend on the type of adoption? Like a public adoption might be impossible since I think you have to reside in the state you're adopting from but maybe internationally it might work out? Maybe Mrs. Jacks can weigh in with her experience.

Foster to adopt would be out because you won't be allowed to leave your county if you are fostering.

In my state, many people come here just for the adoption process. They fly in for the birth and then stay until ICPC is complete. If the baby was from the state you are moving from and not born until after you move, you would have to go through ICPC and stay back in the PNW until you were cleared to go home. I would tell the agencies you are interviewing that this may be a possibility and have them tell you their particular policies around moves. For example, if we moved during the adoption, we would have had to find a different case worker in our new state for our follow-up visits and the agency would have dictated who that case worker could be.

I will say that I think domestic infant adoption might be a little easier for you in the state you want to be in versus the state that you are in (in wait times and hoops to jump through).

Another alternative is to look at a large national agency like American Adoptions where you could be matched with a baby from anywhere.
