Unless it was my DH I wouldn't bring it up - too odd!

I personally never have the guts to remind people they owe me something (like lunch), unless it was really expensive and they are family.

That being said, I often play the card of "can I treat you like my dad for a moment and ask for some lunch money?" and they usually just give me some and don't expect anything in return. It works well with a few of the older males in the office

Eh, that's hard. You could try saying in front of him that you forgot your lunch at home, but if he truly doesn't remember then the chances are low he will suddenly remember. To be honest, I've definitely said this to people and forgotten. I usually remember when the bill comes if we are out to eat together. Maybe you could try that approach? But it's definitely a gamble and probably more rude to entrap him.

I wouldn't bring it up, only if it was family or a close friend. Never to my boss I wouldn't have the guts.

I wouldn't bring it up, because I feel like that's more just a saying, like "I owe you one" than an actual offer of a lunch. But in your case, I wouldn't be doing him favors all the time anymore if it's always one-sided.

I'd never bring it up to anyone - with the possible exception of my boss. We have that kind of casual joking relationship, and plus I feel like when you owe something to a person who is in a lower position than you are on the totem pole, you really ought to follow through on it. I wouldn't mind telling my boss "Remember when you said you owe me lunch?" in your circumstance. (I'd also consider putting my foot down in the future about non-work tasks - unless you're a personal assistant).

I'd bring it up with a coworker because we often spot each other and it's easy to forget.

for my boss, I wouldn't mention it. But next time he asked for a favor and said "I owe you lunch" I'd say, "Can I get that in writing?" to see if he was serious or not. THEN if he's serious, you can hand him the note when it's time to pay up

@Shutterbug: That's how I take it too when a manager figure says "I owe you lunch". I guess I take it more as a "thank you" with extra emphasis than a real offer for lunch. So, I wouldn't bring it up, personally.

I wouldn't bring it up (not just my boss but to anyone, except maybe my sister). I also wouldn't be doing anymore favors for that person. I don't like when people say "I owe you _____." and don't follow through; that's rude & tacky too.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: It had just completely slipped my mind. And I often bring in cookies or treats from a local bakery for people at work, without expecting anyone to reimburse me, and I thought this was a similar thing since he said "I'm getting donuts, anyone want one?" vs. "do you want me to buy you a donut?"

Everyone that overheard thought it was pretty tacky. It wasn't just me. I paid him back the second he reminded me, but it did have people talking.

Only if you could sneak it in as a sort of joke based on something you were already talk about it. I wouldn't bring it up outright,
