This happened with Japanese! As China goes into recession, it should become less hot.

Yeah because people think that China is going to take over as an economic/world power. DD just started Mandarin classes but it's because we are Chinese!

Andrea how old is your daughter? haha too cute on the "kai lan" school!

haha but on a serious note I would love if our daycare taught mandarin! I plan to start M in Mandarin school too at some point but again it's because we're Chinese.

@regberadaisy: 2.5 years! I think it's a good time to start because she already talks a lot in English.

@Andrea: lol... No, maternal... it's my stepdad actually! To give DD some credit, he sort of does look like Kai Lan's Ye Ye though. Haha!

@NYCaliMama: haha, just wondering! Not sure they explain the difference on the show anyway. Hehe, your DD is so cute.

Yeah, I think so.

It won't be one of the languages we focus on teaching our kids though, unless they express an interest in it.

We'll start with the languages we actually speak and the ones of the country we live in, by the time they are done learning those they'll be old enough to have an interest in a particular language and we'll support that.

Yeah, they are really pushing it. I think it would be awesome for my kiddo to learn it (and really any other languages.) She is also in love with Kai Lan and says, "Xie xie" on a regular basis.

Side note- her favorite episode is the "Princess Kai Lan" episode, which features a bear named Tien Tien. There are a ton of Chinese girls in my Accounting and Tax Research class this semester, and one is named Tien Tien. I told my daughter about the girls in my class because I thought she would be excited since she is so obsessed with China, and she said, "There is a bear at your school? Awesome!"
