The new daycare we are taking our daughter to in November teaches the kids other languages. They learn baby sign language, Spanish and Mandarin. The director told me that Mandarin is the "hot new language" so they've added Mandarin into their curriculum. On the other side of the country from us, in Washington state, my brother and sister-in-law have been taking their son to Mandarin classes since he was 4 months old.
So, is Mandarin the "hot" new language or are we just branching out from what I consider "traditional" languages such as Spanish and French?
*Note: I consider them "Traditional" because they were what was offered to me at my High School and College. This may be different for others.
