I'm not complaining, and I wouldn't even say anything, but I was just told that I need to be waking Isaiah every five hours to eat. At night he goes 10-11hrs between feedings. During the day, unswaddled, he goes 4-5 hrs. He eats 5-6oz every feeding. He will be 1mo on Tuesday. He is very happy, content, and is gaining weight. His jaundice was tested and determined to be normal. Do I just let him do what he does or what??

IF he is gaining weight fine, then I would let him sleep! I have heard that newborns need to eat more often than that to keep their blood sugar up, so maybe ask your doctor about that? but otherwise, enjoy the rest

my inclination is that if he's gaining weight, to let him sleep. i had to wake my newborn every 3 hours because of early weight loss, and i'm really pissed that i had to do it because those good sleeping days are OVER.

I woke her up every 3ish hours to eat when she was that age but it was to make sure she was getting her calories in and didn't wake at night! I would check with the doctor but as long as he's gaining weight and sleeping so well at night, I would think it would be fine! You have a hearty baby there momma!

I had to wake her every 2/3 hours because of early weight loss but your little chap sounds like he's gaining brilliantly, plus the amount he eats is double what A used to so it doesn't sound like a problem to me. Enjoy those sleepy cuddles

Did your doctor make the recommendation? If so, I'd just ask him why!
My baby is the same age and eats more frequently but less at a time. (The couple times he's had bottles of breast milk, he's taken around 3 oz.). Anyway, I think you are fine!

Like PP said, if he's gaining weight fine, I say count your blessings! I wouldn't wake baby during the night and only do it in the daytime so she doesn't wake too much at night. Color me green!

I think the general recommendation for FF babies is 2-3oz every 3-4 hours during the day. We never wake Sadie for a feeding, but her natural schedule falls directly in those guidelines. She gives us her hunger cues every 3-4 hours, and eats 3oz at each feeding. I think the reason he's sleeping so long between feedings is that he's getting so much at each feeding. Though 5-6oz is a lot for a one month old, the most important thing is that he's staying within the ounces-per-day parameters. He should be eating about 2.5 ounces per pound of his weight in a 24 hour period. For comparison, right now Sadie takes between 23-26 ounces per 24 hour period, and weighs (I'm estimating) around 10 pounds. My ped recommended doing a few consecutive days of tracking her feedings every couple weeks just to make sure she's eating the right amount - formula fed babies tend to be overfed & their stomachs get stretched too much too soon.
If he's eating the right amount per day, I'd say let him sleep & be thankful you got yourself a sleepy boy!
