Awww I'm sorry. He may just not be ready for sleep training yet. My son is 8 months and wakes a lot through the night. We ended up making a floor bed for him at the end of our bed and he sleeps some of the night down there. We now have actually moved his crib mattress down there. I set up some pillows around it and I can lay down there and nurse him to sleep, then I just sneak away.

It didn't work for our twins until recently at 10 months (and we had to use a stay in the room method). We just had to slog through the bad sleep until then. There were so many rapid fire developmental things happening before that and we weren't ready to night wean til then. So it all just fell into place. It was really hard to deal with the bad sleep for so long, but in hindsight I'm glad we were able to figure out when they really were ready. And when they were, it worked so well and quite fast!

It did not work for us either. We tried three different times while DS was under 1 year. I always hear about people's babies crying 45min the first night and less and less on the subsequent nights and then sleeping after that and it was not our case at all. Each time he would cry 2-3 hours before we would "save" him (with regularly checking on him, of course). I just couldn't believe that that was an ok thing to do to our child, so we gave up.

DS learned to STTN by himself at 1year and 2 weeks. He went from waking up 2-3+times a night to literally, BOOM! Sleeping 10-12 hours solid the next night. He has never woken in the night since. He's now 2.5 and a fabulous sleeper. I think he really figured it out when he was ready, on his terms. Good luck, sleep deprivation is a terrible thing.

I tried to sleep train my son three times. It finally worked at age 11 months.

@MamaJ: I'm with you on that one. In a perfect world our LO would go down in his crib then come into our bed at first wake up...if that wasn't asap after going down in his crib! A couple of hours would be lovely.

We never sleep trained. CIO is just not for us. We rocked to sleep and then started putting our DD down drowsy. At 9 months if she fussed for a few minutes, as long as she wasn't full on crying, we'd pause and give her a minute to calm herself and she usually did. She is 14 months old now and we just do the same nighttime routine every night of bath, teeth brushed, pjs, story, hugs and kisses and then put her down, and she falls asleep peacefully. The routine is key to preparing them for sleep, I think.
