I was born in the midwest, grew up in the "country" .... for a while I lived in "upstate New York" .... now I live in the south.
Is there a name or nickname for the area where you live?

I know people call Charlotte the Queen City but we aren't quite in Charlotte, more so the metro but near the state line with SC. DH calls where I went to school the "country" and the whole area is the upstate (SC).

If you live in the large city nearby, you'd call my town 'in the county', most people from here refer to our town as The 'Burg since the name of the town end is burg.

I used to live in The City. I have also lived in the west coast version of The City (SF). If you call it "Frisco" you are definitely not from there! Seattle is the Emerald City or Rat City depending on who you ask. The girls roller derby team is called "The Rat City Roller Girls".
Now I live in SLC.
