My friend named her son Giovanni and they call him Gio as a nickname!

Gianni (kinda like calling John, Johnny) or Van (like Van Morrison) the Giovanni i know goes by G

Gio or Vanni would be my choices!

@Glitter: when I hear GiGi I think of Christopher's daughter from Gilmore Girls. It's a feminine nickname to me. I like Gio! I personally wouldn't use Gianni but that's because I have students named both Giovanni and Gianni and that would get confusing if the Giovanni's were called Gianni also.

My son has a really nicknameable name, also beginning with G, but we call him by his full name. He actually made up his own nickname, it kind of sounds like what he calls my husband and I, all three of us rhyme. We also called him Mr. G or The G or G.

I first thought Gio but then people said Van and that's my sons name and it rocks too.
