I just thought of this but is there alcohol served at little kid parties??? I'm talking beer not hard mixed drinks. Don't remember ever hosting a party without beer before! Her first just got a whole lot cheaper if there's no booze! Haha

I have been to baby birthdays where they have beer available; we didn't serve any just to keep the cost down.

i think it might depend on the location? like a BBQ style birthday party i can see. we are going to have graysons at our house, so maybe? i'm not sure yet. i'd prefer not too, just because i don't want to pay for it lol

Most of them I've gone to have had beer and/or wine available. Although, come to think of it, I rarely actually see people drinking it...

Hm. Dang it! There goes the budget!
@sarbear: we should totally invite each other to our LO's party!!!!

My family usually does birthday parties on Sunday afternoons, and with my family there is always beer!!

it would be alto cheaper if you dont have it but might be nice for some adults too! lol. i havent been to many lo's birthday parties but the one's ive been to didnt have it.
@sarbear: not to threadjack but i love your lo's name!

We more than likely will. DH brews his own beer plus he works for a wine/beer distributor. He gets to pull wine samples every month and out stock grew quite a bit while I was pregnant =)

@yoursilverlining: hollllaaaa! now that's what I'm talking about.
It's going to be just like any other party we have-- good people, good food, and good drinks (beer, wine, liquor)!

There's always beer at my nephews' parties - except one at a kids gym and the chuck e cheese one - dear lord, those would have been vastly improved by some booze.

I've had home parties and served beer/wine, but it's not like anyone drinks a whole lot. You have to watch your kids!
No alcohol at play gyms, but yeah, there really should be. Those parties are a nightmare.

the ones at restaurants/homes always have alcohol, but not at parks/play gyms.

I would say it's been 50/50 for us. We had some at LO's party for some of our friends but hardly anyone had any.

@regberadaisy: we should!! they need to become buds!
@stargal: thanks!

I wouldn't.. never seen a kids party with alcohol and I definitely won't have it at DS's first

Our friends ordered drinks at LO's 1st birthday party. We had it at a Brazilian Bbq place and let our guests know they were free to order whatever they wanted to drink.

I think it's totally up to you! I've been to many with, some without. I think it depends on your location & your guests. If you know people will be there that go overboard drinking or it's at a play gym or playground then probably best to skip it, if your at home with ppl you'd serve if they came for dinner, then I would.

I have been to a ton of kids birthday parties, and have never seen alcohol at any of them! I am shocked that is is that common.
Maybe it is different here in Canada than elsewhere?

Every one that I've been to has had beer and wine available...but maybe just me and my friends/fam are booze bags?
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
I think it just depends on your group of friends. I didn't serve any, but dh and I don't drink and neither do most of our family and friends so I wouldn't serve it at my own birthday party either.

Always! Kids parties are no fun for adults
If you want to serve something but cut back on the cost, you could serve a punchbowl of something. You'd only be back the $20 or so you'd spend on a bottle.
A lot of our more casual events are BYOB in DH's family. But if I were hosting a party, I'd be sure to have some cases of beer and some kind of fun adult-y punch, set far away from the kids' drinks.

I've been to parties with and without alcohol, but mostly usually have at least beer.

I'm a big fan of this, I don't really see the big deal but some friend have told me it's weird. So I guess it depends on the hostess.

@winniebee: I've never heard the term "booze bags" before. I'm going to start using it =)
