Seriously though, I think it depends on how close you are to your family. Of course if you truely love it you name your baby whatever you want.

I think it would depend on how close you are with them. I wouldn't say it is completely off the table though, if you love it I say go for it! What does your DH think about naming the baby this, and you knowing someone with the name?

I am pretty sure I would use it. Obviously you aren't that close that you just now remembered his name. I assume this isn't a kid that is going to be at your sons birthday parties or anything.

I'm a teacher so it's hard not to have associations with names at all. Our girl name we like is pretty popular so we've chosen a middle name and she could go by both names - think Sarah Jane Jones going by Sarah-Jane (not the names) - could you do this?
I also agree with others that it depends on how often your kids are going to see each other/play together. Does the step-grandnephew go by a nickname? Could you call them Jacob & Jake if they are in the same place? There's really a whole bunch of variables.

If the kid is four and you've never met him I think you're safe!! I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

Oh I'd definitely use it -- but to be safe you could check with your nephew and the boy's mom just to let them know what you are thinking! I'd take it as a compliment if someone used the same name as my LO for their kid!

I'd definitely use it as well. Narrowing down a name is hard enough as is, it'll be close to impossible if you consider every relative or friend that you hardly even see anyway. I say go for it!
