I'm asking for a friend. She wants to have an outdoor birthday party and rent a bounce house and have other activities for the kids. The weather is saying the high will be 55 that day, but it will also be overcast and windy (gusts up to 20mph). She wants to reschedule, but her husband thinks it's fine. What do you think?

Mmmmm, I vote no. Especially if the party is in the morning before it 'warms' up. How old will most of the kids be?

@youboots: The party will be in the late afternoon, probably around 4. Most of the kids will be between 2-5 years old.

@aprild: it just seems like cool weather, wind gusts and a bounce house is something that could go really wrong. People may leave early. Will there be a spot for people to hang inside? Or is it at a park?

At 4 pm that sounds a bit chilly.

@youboots: It's at my friend's house, but she says the inside is small and not good for entertaining, so they want all the guests to stay outside. I'm a little worried about the bounce house too. My husband read a news article about a bounce house blowing away with kids inside!

I think that's too chilly to be outside for that long.
55F isn't too low. But combined with windy + overcast = chilly.

At first I thought too cold, then I thought, well my son would be all about being outside as long as there are things to do, so as long as I knew that it was going to be outside, I'd dress him warmly and with a hat/mittens, etc.

My son loves to be outside so we would probably be ok with it, but we know other families that are not ok with playing outside unless it's warmer. I also think it's hard to keep guests outside unless it's a warm day!

@looch: @jhd: I think my son would be fine as long as I dressed him warmly. I'm worried about myself though haha. I'm a Southern girl, and I don't like cold weather.

55 is nice weather here in Boston... but I would be worried about winds + bounce houses. I keep seeing them blow away with kids inside!

I think it sounds lovely. 55F and overcast is too cold for, say, a pool party, but for running around and playing outside in general? Absolutely seems plenty warm enough to me, just make sure the parents know to send their kids with a jacket.
The wind gusts though, will those be okay for the bounce house? I guess that's an issue for the rental company to decide.

@PawPrints: yes, I would definitely let parents know the party will be outside. If I saw that a party was at someone's home I would assume it's inside/outside.

My friend said they are definitely still doing the party tomorrow.
@psw27: @PawPrints: She also said they are still renting the bounce house. I don't think she's aware of how windy it will be, or maybe she's hoping it will die down by the party time.
