Yes and no for both. MIL is just great with kids because she's kind of a big kid at heart. She's great with playing, feeding, bathing, and all the interaction stuff. She loves to buy extravagant gifts too.

My mom is more the June Cleaver type grandma... constantly cooking and cleaning and doing the behind the scenes stuff.

I'm glad to have the mix of the two, especially because they get along with each other so well, so when they're together they're kind of a grandma dream team.

(Come to think of it, Wagon Jr. is much like his mom and I'm much like mine when it comes to childcare!)

ETA: oh, I forgot about my grandmas! I don't remember my dad's mom even though they were with us when I was really little. They lived in CA most of my life and they were much older. My mom's mom lived with us until I was about 6 and has always been nearby, living with my uncle and helping with his kids until they were in high school. She's much like my mom... cooking, cleaning, always working.

Both grandmas were... interesting. Didn't spoil us, but my maternal grandma did take care of us and make us lots of yummy korean food.
My mom and MIL are total spoilers.

I always wanted one of those movie grandmas! I think my mom is going to be the perfect movie grandma someday, I'm a little jealous =D

On my dad's side, my grandmother is not a kid person. She never seemed to enjoy spending time with us growing up & was very vocal about how she was not a babysitter. She is a terrible cook & doesn't believe in spoiling children. She is a very interesting woman though & very involved in a variety of organizations.

My grandmother on my Mom's side is more domestic but in a cold way. She feels strongly about appearances. We spent a great deal of time with her growing up. She does not like girls and would never be described as sweet or kind or loving. She did spoil my brother, took him to Disney world 3 times but never took me anywhere. She used to play spelling bee with the two of us & tell me how much smarter he was because he could spell words that I couldn't (he's older than I am). She refused to come to my wedding because my participation in DH's cultural traditions makes her uncomfortable & hasn't spoken to me in a year and a half. She is the queen of passive aggressive behavior.

Both of my Grandma's, though they didn't have a lot, spoiled us with love and sometimes little treats, when we saw them. They were both always cooking, cleaning, etc.

My mom is a baby spoiler and her granddaughter isn't even here yet. She won't be traditional, per say, but she will be a fun Gram! My MIL is the typical housewife, cooks, cleans, etc, but doesn't spoil her grandchildren. At all.
