My LO is so needy, and will only entertain himself for like 5-10 minutes, you have to either pick him or change up what he's doing!

LO is 14 months and very independent. She likes to play by herself.

How old? DD is getting better recently b/c she has become mobile. She still doesn't crawl, but she can get around a room pretty efficiently by rolling. That means that she can go get a toy that she wants, or move on to another area when she gets bored. It really helps with her ability to entertain herself. (DD is 6.5 months now.)

@mrsaudi: it's taken a lot of time!! Cobi is just about 8 months old and he is pretty good about playing on his own but only for short spurts of time. Usually at least 10 minutes but never more than 20, maybe 25. I have to change up the toys/scenery. Sometimes he just wants to be held, even if we aren't doing "anything". I tell DH he has a quota for being held haha if he meets that quote of snuggle/close/quality time, then he is normally a lot more likely to play on his own for awhile. Or if he can see me!

@skibobrown: he is 6 months as of yesterday! I know, I figure once he is mobile he will be better about it.

@mrsaudi: Yeah...Ever since she was teeny tiny, she just liked to be by herself. It's good and bad. I mean, it's nice to see that she can occupy herself for long period of time but it's a little sad that she doesn't WANT to play together.

I've never had to be that involved in DD's play but she does like me to pay attention to her and be in the same room. Like she was never the type to play with a few toys in a pack n play so I could shower. She's 2.5 yo now and still likes me close by but will roam around the house a lot more on her own now.

L is pretty clingy at 8 months. She will play with her toys for about 10 mins if I sit next to her. She usually just wants to be held, cuddled, sang to, etc. I wish she was a little more independent - I could get so much more done during the day!!
