Yes, DD was extremely tongue tied. She had a heart shaped tongue without her sticking it out... Infact until we clipped it she couldn't stick it out past her lips & had trouble keeping it past her gums. It DEFINITELY interfered with feeding (nursing AND bottle feeding) so against our pedi's & ENT recommendation of waiting till 8 months when they would put her under general anesthesia to do it, we went to a local pediatric dentist & had it clipped in office at 7 weeks (they were both adamant that her being tongue tied would NOT affect breastfeeding).

She immediately nursed better and started gaining weight alot better too! We were both miserable before clipping it so I'm so glad we did!

i had to have my tongue clipped when I was about 12 or 14 years old. It apparently affect me before that. At least not too badly.

My son is tongue tied too. It never affected his ability to nurse ehich is why we never got it snipped. He was actually speech delayed and got us worrying about whether his short frenulum was the cause of it. We took him to a specialist - they said his is not that severe and we should take the wait and see approach. Turns out that he just had a normal delay in speech but I still worry that it will affect his annunciation.
My daughter does not have the condition though.

My son had one, that a lactation consultant discovered when he was about 3 weeks old because he'd had problems with jaundice, dehydration, and gaining weight properly. It wasn't even bad enough to cause the heart shaped tongue but made nursing extremely difficult for him and extremely painful for me. One 3 second procedure later, he latched on for 40 minutes straight after not nursing for more than one or two sucks at a time up until then!!!! Our pediatrician had also assured us there was "no way" it would help with breastfeeding. Ha!

I had one. I got it snipped when I was 20. It never affected my speech or anything but I was getting my tonsils out so the ENT said she could snip it at the same time. I wish I never had it done. The ENT snipped too far and exposed the muscle. I had to have stitches. Of course they didn't dissolve like they were supposed to and I had to get them taken out. Talk about painful! My tongue was so swollen after the surgery I couldn't talk for 4-5 days.

DS was born with it as well, we had it snipped before I went home. It made breastfeeding so much easier! Its amazing how quickly he tore up my nipples those first two days because of a poor latch.
