Mrs. Bee is! She's a planner and loves to travel!!
I probably am not a good travel buddy... it doesn't play to my strengths.
Is your SO a good travel buddy? How about you?

DH & I make a good team while traveling. I probably do most of the prep work: planning, packing, etc. but I love the anticipation of a trip so it doesn't feel like work!

He is - we are a good team. I am a type A planner, and travelling tends to stress me out. He balances it out with his fun and relaxed ways. I make sure things run smoothly but he makes sure I enjoy myself

Yes, we love traveling together near or far!
He's awesome at planning, navigation, and negotiation.
I'm good at keeping a cool head in new situations, guarding our stuff, and taking pictures
pomelo / 5820 posts
Yes! He's always down for whatever, which is great, because I love planning lots of stuff!

Yup! I'm the bigger planner! I do 90% of the research, budget finding and booking. We both like being prepared while still leaving a little extra to throw caution to the wind. While traveling too we are compatible. We both go into a vacation either expecting to go, go, go or relax. In terms of endurance though he's definitely got me beat.

Yes, he's really good at planning all our meals, excursions, etc. he's a lot of fun to travel with since he's adventurous.
pomegranate / 3809 posts
Definitely! I'm the planner and he's just ok going along with my plans and navigating everywhere.

@PermaStudent: This is a lot like us. I'm a good planner and detail-oriented, but easily stressed out. DH isn't a good planner, but can figure anything out. We ended up stranded in Africa, and DH figured out where we were and how to get us home.

Yes, he's a great traveller! He's very laid back and willing to go with the flow - he really doesn't get flustered, which is good as he's rather accident prone and usually has at least one mishap on every trip we take!
I'm the organiser who does all the planning, reads the books, and makes all the arrangements; he's the problem solver who can charm the pants off just about anyone. We complement each other very well on our travels!

YES! He's a great travel buddy.
I do all the planning and booking. He just goes with the flow and carries the bags
The only thing that he's not great about is flying because his legs are so long. However, the past few international trips we've taken, we've flown business and he's so MUCH happier with leg room.

I think so, we both like to have a good mixture of doing things and relaxing!

DH is the best kind of travel buddy - easy going, laid back, and willing to do whatever I want
my job is to do all the planning (which I love) and his is to make sure I don't get us too lost! However, he is a baddddd airplane buddy. He is tall and always feels cramped and uncomfortable.
pineapple / 12234 posts
Not the best - he gets anxiety while flying and becomes short with me! He's a great travel buddy for road trips though.

We're mostly very compatible travellers! He does research on restaurants and places, I do research on activities and the navigator unless we're driving. He has a short attention span
Though so sometimes is like "what's next??" Ant that stresses me out bc I feel like I have to play tour guide for him. After a couple trips like that I have to actively nip that on the bud, haha

He's great because he's super organized and thorough in all that he does.

Yes and no.....
No - because he's Mr Cautious! He refuses to travel anywhere where there is unrest or he feels we might be at risk (which is, like, everywhere!) so destination options are limited for us. Once there, he's super cautious about where we visit - for example, he wouldn't hire a car in Mexico because he feared we would get car jacked so we had to go everywhere on organised trips. I need to be free!!
Yes - because of the above! I'm a bit too fearless sometimes and could run into trouble!
Oh and he also hates humidity, gets air pressure related headaches and can't handle too much sun.
pomelo / 5469 posts
No, not really. He doesn't plan and he freaks out if we go too far from the car, hotel, resort etc. He doesn't really get the point of travel, though he'll happily taken vacations because he knows I love it so much.
I hope LO becomes a good traveller so we can go places together

Yes, my travel soul mate. My ex was a travel whiner.
nectarine / 2932 posts
No! My husband is an awful traveler. He doesn't like leaving home, has horrible anxiety, hates flying, and isn't able to relax unless he's three sheets to the wind.
He's better at road trips.

Not international. I am the only one who speaks another language, I am more typeA and aware and experienced...

I feel like we do well together when we travel. I do a lot of prep work, packing lists, research, packing etc. he's really good with the actual day of traveling, he is good with airports and dealing with people.
persimmon / 1177 posts
DH is terrible about the actual traveling part (gets cranky whether we're driving or flying somewhere), but once we get where we're going it's great.
nectarine / 2433 posts
We are good travel partners. I do a lot of the planning for activities and sightseeing while he books most of the air travel and accommodations. Day of he can get really stressed at airports but road trips are our sweet spot! For the first 2 years we were together we only really did road trips and it was so much fun

DH is an excellent travel buddy. We travelled around a lot in our first 2 years together and I honestly think it was one of the things that helped us know we would be good married.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
Yes and no! He isn't great about planning and I like having an idea of what we are going to do each day. He is great cause he makes me try new things.

My husband is an AMAZING travel partner. He looooves traveling, and is pretty fearless yet practical at the same time. When we started dating, he'd already been to Australia, the Ukraine, and the Ecuadorian rainforest along with lots of places in the US! He's not a big planner and is very go-with-the-flow while I'm a HUGE planner so we balance each other out there. He also likes driving while I dislike it so he's great on roadtrips! The only dilemma is the kind of vacations we like--I like very organized, "safe" destinations (like Disney World!) where he is more adventorous and likes off-the-trail and rustic-type travel, so we introduce each other to new things.
