Nope, we will still take them! I'm glad that I have such a progressive state government.

No. I think I read somewhere that those states can't legally turn them away, though?

Not yet thankfully. It's shameful the way people are acting. I imagine that our Governor-elect will probably want to change that.
ETA: I rescind my statement. Governor Bevin has joined the ranks.

@lovehoneybee: I've been wondering about that -- whether this is a real thing or more like grandstanding.

Canada is actually in the process of letting in 25,000 refugees before the end of the year, so....nope, the opposite.

@lovehoneybee: Yep. They're just making a point. It is up to the federal government where they relocate these refugees.

What @MrsSCB: said.
I think it's just grandstanding. They can't do anything about it - it's not like we have passport checks at state lines or anything.

Our state has issued something saying we will be reviewing the acceptance process. The news created a headline that we won't be, and then updated the story at the bottom saying the headline was wrong. But of course people aren't reading the actual article and are sharing it anyway.

@lawbee11: @mrs.shinerbock: I'm glad it's not actually a real thing they can do. Although it's sad that they're still talking like they get a say in this decision. Not exactly going to make people feel welcome! And after all they've been through already, they deserve so much better

Yes, which isn't surprising at all. Once again, he doesn't understand the law - either our state constitution and state law (earlier this year with his "pocket-veto" disaster) or federal law. Winner all around.

I think I voted yes, but I meant no. NY is a sanctuary state, and I support that. I have some friends in my city who work with refugees from Myanmar, Somalia, and Sudan and I really admire their work and the strength of the people who've gone through so much upheaval in their lives.

I'm in Illinois and yes. It's appalling. I hate our governor so much, and not just about this.

I just looked again and yes it seems our governor has issued a statement saying no to the refugees. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Washington is welcoming them with open arms! So glad to be able to say that.

No. Virginia welcomes them. 75% of the students I work with are refugees (ESL teacher). I will gladly open my arms and welcome more.

My state governor and city mayor have thankfully both reiterated their support and welcome of Syrian refugees.

Yes and yet another reason to hate our stupid governor.

@OhCaptain: I saw that too. Refugee resettlement here is pretty rare though, I think.

My country is still taking them in. There are thousands here already anyways whether they are just transiting through or applying for asylum.
