I usually live in states that vote similarly to what I do. So with the Electoral College system, it always feels like my Presidential vote is a bit of a waste. If we went off of a popular vote, then I'd feel much happier about voting!

I'm in the same situation as you. It would be interesting to see how things played out if it did go by popular vote. Maybe more people would show up to the polls?

I'm in NY so yeah, I feel like it doesn't matter much how I vote!

I feel like the electoral college makes my vote not count either way. I live in a very red state, I'm a Republican so most years my state represents me whether I vote or not. This year, I voted blue, and didn't get to have my vote represented even though I cast a ballot.

My state was veryyyyyy close this election so I don't feel my vote was a waste. We are typically pretty blue, but I was shocked at how close to being red we were this time.
But either way, I'm done with the electoral college too.

I vote blue in a red state, but my county leans blue, so I feel like my vote is generally wasted in the presidential election but counts in my state and local elections.

All votes matter because they demonstrate changing demographics / politics to the country and the parties the . For example, I've voted blue in AZ for the past 6 years and I think they've been seeing the Democratic votes climb here and they'll invest more time and attention, thereby turning it into a swing state.

I'm pretty rabid about this stuff and always feel like my vote "counts". Even when I lived in Texas and voted blue, I felt like I counted....even if just so people could track changes or where people vote which way.
Now living in a more blue state, I still feel like it counts because my current state is pretty divided. All the more urban places vote blue, and all the more rural and far-out suburbs vote red. Except for the suburbs with train lines to NYC. So I love the maps that show how people vote and I love helping those maps happen.

I lived in a swing state for a long time and every vote mattered. It's been red and blue and red again since I started voting. My current state is solidly red, but if I were to stop voting then the chances of politicians visiting the state and other blue voters would go down. People campaign and vote where they think they have a chance. My vote encourages more votes.

I live in a red state (like CNN was reporting it as Trump with 0% of the votes) however I vote opposite. In the words of Hamilton the musical " If you stand for nothing, Burr, what'll you fall for?" I my "lose" every time but at least I know I stood up and voted for what I believe.

I used to think that in presidential races it didn't really matter. I always voted, but voting blue in MA and NY kind of feels like piling on sometimes. You know in the back of your mind that millions of other people are voting blue too, and if you don't vote the outcome will still be the same.
But with what happened in Michigan and Wisconsin, I feel more that my vote counts. I don't want to assume any more that my vote gets taken for granted. I also feel now that it's important to show the president elect that he did NOT win the majority of Americans, just (potentially) the majority of the states with our strange system.
I hate the electoral college though and I hope that we can reform it in a way that makes every American feel that their vote counts.

@looch: Yes but I wouldn't trust someone else to really swap their vote!!

I do feel like it's wasted in presidential elections. But never in local!!

When I lived in Texas, I definitely felt like my blue vote was wasted. Now I live in typically blue state that surprisingly went red this year and I don't know how to feel.

@avivoca: Same here. My state (Utah) will NEVER go blue...but I live in a very liberal city/county. I always vote in local elections for that reason--my voice actually does count there!!

I never feel like it is wasted. It still will count towards statistics and trends for future reference regionally. I'm a big stats person though, so I love tracking numbers and changes.
