DH and I disagree on names and we're getting down to the wire. We do agree on what the top TWO names are but we disagree on which one is #1. For some background, Theodore is my top choice and William is his (named after his uncle who he was very close to and passed away a couple of years ago). Nicknames would be Will or Theo, not Bill and Ted (haha).
So, what do you guys think of these two options???

I voted for Theodore but they are both great names and sound nice with the middle names you’ve chosen!

Does Theodore having any special meaning to you? If not, I think I have to go with William because you like it enough to be #2 and it has special meaning for your husband.

@LadyDi: Well I must say, you have AMAZING taste because my top two boy names for my fictitious boy/boy twins (we are done SOB) are Theodore David and William August. Almost identical to your names! Cannot go wrong!

@BadgerMom: Theodore doesn't have any particular meaning. I just like it! We named DS1 after DH's grandfather (the name suits my son but probably not a name I would have chosen otherwise) so I was hoping to name this one....there aren't any male names on my side of the family that I am really drawn to as a first name.

I picked Theodore because it's my #1 pick if we ever have a boy! Our daughter's name doesn't have special meaning, we "just liked it" after lots of research and consideration. It will be special enough because it's your baby even if no one else in the family had it first.

Theodore is one of my top two boy names, so I vote for that! I think since your first is named after DH’s side, it’s fair for you to pick this one. DD1’s middle name is from my side, so DD2’s is from DH’s. Just seems fair!

Ok since your older sons name comes from your husband’s side, and I’m assuming they have your husbands last name , I would 100% go with Theodore

My husband and I both love Theo but disagree on full name, he wants just Theo I love Theodore.
Fingers crossed when we get pregnant again it's a girl, boy names are hard!

@Truth Bombs: Is theo trendy?! I feel like Dr Google gave me conflicting information on where Theodore fell on those "top boy name" lists.

@LadyDi: it’s a name I’ve seen become more and more popular lately and has sort of a hipster vibe to me. My son’s name is in the top 5, so popularity isn’t a huge deal to me, but his name is classic. I felt Ted/Teddy stood the test of time better than Theo.

I was going to say William for the family meaning, but now that I see your husband already got that for the first, I do agree you should have more say in this one. I really like both names and nicknames.
Also I agree with @Truth Bombs: that Theo may be slightlier trendier, but not really trendy, I don’t think. And I do like it better than ted (but love teddy!) I don’t personally know any little theordores or theos.

@LadyDi: I picked William because I am partial to it (we call ours Liam.) But the great thing about nicknames like this is that he can grow out of a childhood nickname. My son might decide he prefers Will in the future.
So, it you call him Theo now, he might go by Ted later. FWIW, with names being so unique now, I don't think anyone would bat an eye at the nickname Theo in the future.

I love Theo... it's in the 300s for popularity. I think Theodore is in the 80s and William is like 3rd.
Theodore is more exciting to me. William has been popular for so long. It's obviously popular for a reason though, lovely name!

Both are great names but like @Foodnerd81 said, I was leaning towards William for the family connection but since DS1 has that covered, how about Theodore William?

@LadyDi: I think these are basically the same in terms of category of name--both classic, strong, masculine, popular, and steady-- neither one is some pinteresty-vibe name. So with that in mind I think you should get to pick and it should totally be the LadyDi's Preference Show here since your husband already got a family nod last time. Also FWIW I see that some pp's are saying Theo is trending in their area--Will is trending in mine, I like Will, I have a brother named Will, but I meet SO many baby/little boy Wills. And I love love love Theodore, it was our #2 name (although we'd have gone with Ted/Teddy as a nn)--it will def be back on our list if this baby turns out to be a boy. More than anything I think you should get to pick your heart's desire here, you're the one doing all the work!

No input based on who "should get to" choose, but William is my favorite boy's name, and I am not a big fan of the nickname Theo, so I went with William over Theodore : ) You can't go wrong either way though - both classic names.

They're both great names, but I'm a sucker for a name with a story so I voted William. My DS is my husbands best friends namesake, we lost his friend to Cancer while we were TTC and he told me he was going to send us an angel....a couple months later we were pregnant.
Can you compromise and make it a middle name instead?
