We thought our son was just a terrible sleeper for the first six months of his life, we were up at least once, often two or three times and often for extended times. We reduced his night feeding amounts and he didn't mind, plus he was getting older so we decided he was ready for sleep training about a month ago. We used the Ferber method, had 3 or 4 rough days and by the end of the week, he was sleeping about 11 hours each night.

This worked great for a few weeks, he was happier, eating better, less moody overall. Now for a little over a week he's been waking up very upset so we've been feeding him bottles each night. He is 7 months old, healthy and clearly capable of sleeping through the night but he gets so upset, it is upsetting to me. We tried restarting the Ferber method last night and it was a complete disaster, after an hour and a half of crying and checks, I fed him and he ate an entire 8 oz bottle. He was still a little upset but after about a minute of singing and back rubbing, he was out until normal wake up time.

I feel so sad about this, we were really enjoying the steady sleep. We don't do well without decent sleep. We recently started focusing on things we had been too tired to do all these months, a big one being take care of ourselves better.

Do babies often need to be re-trained so quickly? Could something else be wrong with him? His room is a comfortable temperature, he goes to sleep well at bedtime. He eats well before bed. I am willing to keep trying Ferber since it worked so well before but this time feels different, he is more upset, the crying seems so much worse, so maybe something else is better for us? This is depressing!
