I guess the next question is WHEN to trigger. Like, now? Or tonight?
pear / 1881 posts
@jaguar: What time is it there now? yeah, maybe tonight? You think that doing this for as long as we have, that we would be experts in this, huh?
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@NorthStar: I'm a total newbie when it comes to basic ovulation. It never works over here.
Yeah, it's 8.40am here. I did those tests about an hour ago. So I'm thinking maybe at bedtime tonight, or heck, even midday? I dunno.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@jaguar: Hi! I think that your ovulation tests are definitely indicating that you should use your trigger shot. Its interesting to me that you have a trigger shot without doctor monitoring! Is that normal over there? Or do you just have an extra one lying around? If you have the trigger shot and you will have no problem getting other trigger shots if you need them later then I see no problem using it tonight! Trigger shot for me was like 36 hours before egg retrieval. I don't know if that helps you at all re: timing. How exciting!!
@momazon: Yes, that does actually make me feel better. Thanks so much for sharing your experience.
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@agold: No, not normal. I have two leftover triggers from previous cycles - and it's only unmonitored because of the Christmas holidays. (Clinic doesn't open until Jan 5th.)
I just can't figure out whether I do it now, or give it 12 hours to let the egg perhaps mature a tiny bit.
I guess there's no problem with leaving it that time frame because we're only going to be doing TI, not timing specifically for IUI or IVF like before.. what's the worst that can happen with it, I surge on my own beforehand? (Doubtful!)
nectarine / 2192 posts
@agold: I've read that once you see the heartbeat, the risk of miscarriage plummets. Sending you good vibes!
@jaguar: sorry to hear about the acne- I have a lot of that too, though I blame my prednisone. As far as triggering, it's hard to say if you're not monitored. When you've done femara in the past, has that been enough?
AFM, BFN today as expected, so estrace tomorrow. All my meds are in our house except the intralipids. I have elevated NK cells, and intralipids have been found to be as helpful as IVIG with less risk and way less expensive. I asked my doc about doing the SIRM protocol- he's plus/minus on it but since it's super low-risk, he doesn't object. I'm supposed to do the first infusion 7-10 days before transfer, then another if I get a positive beta, then monthly til 20 weeks. I called around- most pharmacies don't have it, but Avella has it for $57, or 2/$100, or 6/$275. (Yay! I had read it typically costs $100/dose. I love shopping and saving money.) I just need to decide how many to get now, and get the rx faxed in. Starting estrace tomorrow- hoping for no migraines.
In other more fun things, here are some Paris pictures as promised.

@AmeliaBedilia: Beautiful! oh, I love Paris!
The first two Femara cycles I did were 50/50, ovulated on one, not on the other. During the IVF FET Femara OI cycles, I was triggered & am emby back in, so we had the timing sorted out for us. I've not gone in blind before!
Not concerned about using the trigger, just more concerned about timing!
nectarine / 2192 posts
@jaguar: Typically I would say to consider what day it has been in the past, but not sure if that applies. With the OPKs that are positive, I say go for it now!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: Thanks for the input and well wishes. And wow, those pictures are amazing! I'm so glad you had such a great time.
pomegranate / 3764 posts
Ok, so I did another cheapy OPK and it came up positive straight away, so I'm assuming my surge is beginning this morning. I'm going to trigger today at lunch (in about an hour!)
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: So I took it earlier today, and tonight I have massive cramps in the lady regions. I hope this surge is actually working - with or without the trigger!
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@jaguar: That's exciting! I hope the trigger shot does the trick for you this cycle!
pear / 1881 posts
@jaguar: yay! That's awesome!!
Still no AF here. I just took an Internet cheapie and it was negative, but not first morning urine. If no AF by morning, I'll take a first response. This is craziness. Wonder if the hormones screwed up my body?
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@NorthStar: Never trust mid-day urine! So once I started fertility meds, my cycles were extremely wonky. Sucks to lose all sort of predictability you may have had. I'm still hoping for an end of the year miracle for you!
pear / 1881 posts
@agold: it's so annoying cause I'm typically spot on. I don't even feel pms symptoms. I would like to order my meds, but not until I know for sure
nectarine / 2192 posts
@NorthStar: so frustrating! I'm really hoping you get a New Year's miracle, but find out in 2015 so you know what to do with meds!
@agold: Agh! I trusted late morning urine yesterday as a BFN. Granted, if femara, a touch of gonal f, and IUI didn't get us pregnant, I don't think we will with two weeks of birth control (though progesterone is less effective and I took a few doses late).
Day 1 of estrogen. The place where I'm getting intralipids has to order it, but I got that started. Otherwise, I did a little bathroom cleaning and cleared a spot for meds. I organized all my meds through ER. Dork that I am, I made a chart so I check off the boxes for each med, so I feel like I'm making progress. We have to turn in the consent forms tomorrow with a notary, as well as the "what to do with embryos in case of disaster." We've had the discussion, so it should be fairly quick, other than the headache of the notary. "Hey honey, we love each other so much to not only try to make a baby, but to spend tons of money and risk all kinds of terrible things to make it happen. Let's talk about what we do with extra embryos (that might not even happen) if we get divorced." I also have lining check and estrogen blood draw. I understand the point of checking what follicles are doing and to increase or decrease meds based on the result, but I don't understand this. What are they wanting at this point, and if it's not where it's supposed to be, what would they do?

@jaguar: Glad you are all set with the trigger for this cycle. It must be nice to feel some level of control with this one!
@agold: Wishing you all the best with your U/S today!
@AmeliaBedilia: Hoping that the estrogen phase goes really quickly for you and your side effects aren't too bad. Thanks so much for posting your Paris pics! It looks so beautiful and I'm glad you were able to go and enjoy it!! I am also all about checking off progress so I love the spreadsheet idea! There is so much medication to keep track of, it's a great thing to do.
@NorthStar: Wishing you much luck with this cycle! Are you testing again this morning?!
AFM: Baseline U/S this morning and as far as I could tell, all looked good and calm. I'll get the call from my nurse this afternoon to confirm starting stims tonight! Here we go! Getting excited (other than fighting a cold!)!
pear / 1881 posts
@GreenThumb: yay!! Good luck this go round and keep us updated!!
Yes, tested this morning and . Is this normal after a failed cycle? I'm now 4 days late. Grrrr
persimmon / 1132 posts
@NorthStar: Sorry your not getting a clear sign whether if it's just a late AF or BFP. I was very late (like 10-ish days) on the second cycle after my freeze-all. It's not at all the same so hopefully someone else will chime in! This process can definitely mess with our cycles and can also make some girls super fertile -- so both situations are very possible! Hoping you get a clear answer today.
@GreenThumb: Yay, glad it's finally your time to stim! Hope it all goes well on your new protocol!
agold: Thinking of you! Hope your u/s was completely fine and wonderful!
@jaguar: So exciting that you could feel the surge working! Hope this fun little experiment goes all the way! So glad your were able to get moving before your clinic reopens!

@GreenThumb: Thanks!
@NorthStar: ugh!
I had a monitoring appt with the NP. This is the one week the RE is off, but he checks email every evening to direct things. I have a 16mm cyst. I freaked out that they'll cancel the cycle, but she said that was very unlikely, and his MA who deals with all things IVF agreed, and said it had features that it was shrinking. The NP's ultrasound skills were not good, and had a lot of trouble finding my left ovary (RE has never had any trouble, and DH was able to see it on the screen). NP also said my follicle count was 11, but DH (who has had ultrasound training) said it looked no different than before, and that she just wasn't able to see them as well as the RE. They did estrogen, progesterone, and an HCG, which are pending.
Then AF came.
Then I found out the place that I'm getting intralipids from says there is a national shortage and we don't know when it will be in. I keep trying to cut down my stress, and these things keep coming.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@GreenThumb: @Amorini: thanks girls. My ultrasound was fine today. We saw the fetal pole and heart beat. Phew. But I had red bleeding last night that made me think the worst. I called my husband to come home from work. So this morning was a relief. No explanation on the bleeding though. It's stopped thank god.
@NorthStar: after both of my failed IUIs, my cycles were 10 days and 30 days late. I had a 40 and 59 day cycle. Totally sucked. You can always call your doctor's office and have them do an ultrasound to see what your ovaries are doing.
persimmon / 1132 posts
@agold: How totally scary! I'm so glad it turned out to be fine and that you got to see the heartbeat. Come on, little bean! Keep at it!

@AmeliaBedilia: Breathe hun! You've got this. xx
@agold: You're having a BABY!

@Amorini: @jaguar: thanks girls! I'm still in shock over it all.
@jaguar: how is everything since you did the trigger shot?

@agold: Yay!
@jaguar: Thanks!
I got the call that my RE says it's ok to proceed with the cyst. I'm relieved. I finally have the intralipids figured out (I think). One of the local hospitals can order it within one business day. The plan is to pick it up Saturday, since their hours are very similar to my work hours next week. They will try running it through insurance on Saturday, so in the unlikely event insurance covers it, it will at least go to my 2016 deductible. The downside is that they require me to buy the whole case, which is 12 doses. The protocol is infusion at 7-10 days before transfer, then again with BFP, then monthly til 20 weeks. If this cycle works I will need 6 doses. The 12 doses will cost $364, which is a great price per individual dose (cheapest was $57 if it were in stock there, most places are around $80-100). The shelf life is two years, so the good news is I shouldn't have to get this ordered again.
Saturday I start gonal F 375 units and menopur 75. I've done the gonal F, but not the menopur. I watched the menopur video. Any suggestions for how to avoid the burning?
apricot / 365 posts
@agold: Yay for a good ultrasound!!
@AmeliaBedilia: Glad you're still able to move forward with the cyst. I iced before all of my shots (i am a BIG baby about needles :p), so that helped with the needle actually going in, but the burn (which wasn't too bad after the first couple days since I knew what to expect) is internal, so I'm not sure there's much to do about it.
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: Sounds like it's in the bag, yay!
@agold: Meh, not really sure. We managed three days of BD, so that was something (since the last miscarriage it's been.. quiet over here. It kind of ruined things) -- before, day of, after. I stopped temping and OPKing from trigger day because it would be pointless - but I did do a hcg and saw positive, so at least I know the trigger absorbed.
Now we wait, I guess. Hopefully a bleed in 2 weeks.. I hate it when my body drags things out.

@AmeliaBedilia: I iced for probably 10 minutes before my shots, seemed to work! Good luck to you dear!!

Just wanted to pop in and wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year!!!
pear / 1986 posts
Hi ladies! Just a quick update from me. I've had three days of stims (37.5 Gonal-F, 75 Menopur) and Lovenox. First U/S and E2 check this morning. We are going slow and steady - only 1 follicle at 9 mm and there are a lot of other small ones. Lining was 6.1 mm (which they seemed happy about). I'll get my E2 later today and an update on med dosages. Feeling good, definitely feel twinges in the ovaries. Doing Circle+Bloom and finding that very relaxing. Having a girls day today with my BFF. Next check in is on Monday.
@AmeliaBedilia: How are you doing? Starting stims today, right?! So exciting!!
So glad you got the intralipids all set!! The menopur doesn't burn too much for me and that feeling is gone pretty quickly. I'm haven't been icing, but I know that helps a lot of ladies with the needles.
@Amorini: Thanks!!
@agold: So awesome that you saw little bean again and a heartbeat! Yay!!!
nectarine / 2192 posts
@endymion4: @Miss Sarah: @jaguar: thanks!
@GreenThumb: you are correct. Little nervous about the first injections but I'll get it done. I'm really nervous for monitoring appointments and worrying about the results. I'm trying to just trust the RE and let him do the worrying.
I picked up the intralipids. They didn't run it through the insurance like they said. I'll call my insurance this week and see if they'll let any of it go towards my deductible.
nectarine / 2192 posts
Day 1 injections done! The menopur was a little painful but I expected it. I was told that the European gonal F is the exact same as the USA gonal F, and it looks exactly like it. My only concern is hoping for as much overfill as possible. The leftover pen had 87.5 units of overfill, and it didn't look like any was left. I hope I don't have to order more.
pear / 1881 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: yay! Congrats on day #1!! I think it says on the front or back top regarding overfill, unless I'm thinking of the follistim. When is your next ultrasound?
pear / 1986 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: So glad yesterday wasn't too bad! When do you have your next U/S?
AFM: I'm definitely feeling "heaviness" in the ovaries now on day 5 of meds. Another U/S and E2 tomorrow morning. I am having fears about all the measurements from yesterday, of course. There was one measurable follicle and they didn't even count the others, just said multiple on each side. I guess why take the time to count when they aren't measurable yet, but I want to know! E2 was 121 which is so much lower than last time and they didn't increase my meds, so I rationally know that's a good thing, since the high E2 last time led to OHSS, but I hope it's high enough. I did have EWCM this morning so that must mean E2 is increasing. A lot of anticipation for tomorrow's day 6 monitoring. Circle+Bloom is really helping me relax before bed though.
nectarine / 2192 posts
@GreenThumb: @NorthStar: I have an estrogen level tomorrow, and ultrasound/estrogen level on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. I'm so worried about the response!
What are they looking for with the estrogen?
@GreenThumb: Good luck!
pear / 1881 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: they don't want it to rise too quickly as that would put you at risk for ohss. Also, at the end, the level gives a good idea how many mature follicles there might be
