@GreenThumb: Not really anything fun, unfortunately! I'm a CPA and our tax/busy season is starting, so that is going to be a lot of hours. I'm nervous about cycling in march during the midst of crazy hours, but I'll make it work. I'm trying to pick up knitting again as a way to relax in the evenings.

@jaguar: I thought about 10 days? Maybe wait one day to be sure?? I hope it works!

@NorthStar: Oh yeah, that is tough, but I think any way to stay busy and distracted is good thing, even if it is because of work. Knitting is a good one (I'm working on a hat right now).
@jaguar: I was thinking 10 days, too. :good luck:
@AmeliaBedilia: Wishing you well for your check tomorrow!

@NorthStar: Thanks for thinking of me. I have monitoring appointments Friday, Saturday and Monday. I'm guessing he will have me come back Tuesday if his current guess on egg retrieval is correct.
I hate monitoring appointments more than the shots. My hats off to those of you who have a long drive- mine is ten minutes and all these appointments are such a pain. This is my doc's standard monitoring schedule. Did other people have this frequent?
I ordered more follistim- somehow I got two phone calls into winfertility in the midst of a super crazy work day. Now I'm going to relax and try not to stress. I have tomorrow off. Saturday I'm going to have my intralipid infusion after Monitoring.
@jaguar: I never tested it out, but I had a beta of 4 at 14.5 days after trigger (trigger at night, beta early). I'm guessing you're too early to test- no matter what, it could change. Waiting is terrible!

@GreenThumb: Thanks! I think you have one too? Any over the weekend?
pear / 1986 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: I know, its a TON of appointments! At least you know your schedule of monitoring ahead of time... I have one and then have to wait until I get a call from the RE's office to find out when I have the next one. I'm going tomorrow, too, and after that I don't know .

@GreenThumb: Glad all seems well with your cycle.
@waiting4you: I lol'd at 'it seems logical to use hgh to grow a human'
@AmeliaBedilia: I'm happy all is going well for you so far. I start my stims in a week assuming my pre-appointment bloods/us goes well on Monday. My schedule has appointments as often as yours, every other day beginning on day 4 of stims (and I'm one of the ones with a nasty 1.25 hour drive, boo!). I'm not looking forward to it lol

@Aqualov: Ugh! I hope that's both ways!
On Wednesday I had five follicles 10-11mm on my left and only one on my right, with another 4-5 smaller ones. RE said the smaller ones were questionable. Now I'm feeling a little pressure on left side only, which makes me worry that the right side is only going to have one. First three monitored cycles I had much better response on the right, told my acupuncturist and then I ovulated better on my left. I had a cyst on my right three days before stims started. I'm trying to give me right ovary a pep talk.
pear / 1881 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: good luck tomorrow! You are getting close and it's good that you are feeling something. With my failed ivf cycle, I literally felt no pressure anywhere. It's good that you are starting to because they are growing!! Also, a friend got a ridiculous number of eggs from only one side and was able to freeze four. It can happen!!
I have 5 ultrasounds currently scheduled for my next cycle and towards the end, it could be every day. (I live 2.5 hours away -ick!). Hang in there. You paid as much as you did for a reason. They need to monitor you closely to give you your best shot.

@AMELIABEDILIA and @AQUALOV - I'm like aqualov, 1 hour or more each way to the dr. While it SUCKS, I try to remind myself that I'm blessed to have some insurance coverage and if it means I have to drive this far to save $15k, then bring on the playlists and tanks of gas. I start stims on Sunday and they have my first u/s set for day 3 this time (it was day 5 last round). They also kept me on BC for a week longer and and are starting stims a day earlier on day 4 instead of 5 days after last BC pill. Hopefully this is our "time"!

Hi Everyone, I had mentioned this on another post but thought I would bring it up here as well. I had mentioned that my Dr. had added HGH to my protocol this time. Since HGH is off label, you'll most likely have to pay for it out of pocket. My RE's office suggested I use a pharmacy in Miami, FL for it and assured me it was the best price they were aware of. SMP Pharmacy Solutions
http://www.smppharmacy.com/fertility/fertility-medications/
I shared this info with @purplepumps but I hadn't been to the website. I see that they carry other fertility meds as well and they appear to be less expensive than I've seen other places. I had an excellent experience with them and the meds arrived quickly (overnight) with no issue. I highly recommend. Hopefully this will help someone else in HelloBee land

And another situation I had happen with meds. I have to use Aetna Specialty Pharmacy since I have some fertility coverage and they require you use them. Since this is my 2nd round of IVF I had some meds left over from round 1. I sent a detailed list of what I had leftover to my RE. They called in my Rx for round 2 but didn't factor in what I already had. When I called ASP to set up delivery I informed them of the actual quantities to process/send since I had some already. As I know all of you are about your meds, I was extremely detailed and wrote everything down and confirmed before we got off the phone. The package arrived the next day and there were more of certain meds than I had ordered. I immediately called to speak to someone and was told there was nothing they could do about it and once it leaves the building "the integrity of the drug cannot be confirmed and therefore it cannot be returned". I was beyond upset since this will now be charged against my $15k in coverage...for THEIR ERROR! The guy put me on hold and spoke with quality control and unfortunately came back with the same answer. He transferred me to a supervisor who was very very nice, but she pretty much said the same thing and there wasn't anything she could do about it. She said she would try everything she could and get back to me (I was completely sobbing at this point while telling her how incredibly important every $ of coverage is and she ended up tearing up on the phone with me as well).
Moral of the story...check, recheck and check again what they are sending before they send. This was a $600+ mistake on their part that is now costing ME.

@waiting4you: omg - how horrible! I cannot believe they did that.. I'm so sorry Can the pharmacy maybe send you a check for what they oversent as compensation?
clementine / 777 posts
@waiting4you: I'm so sorry for this. I happened to see this - I'm not doing IVF at present. Is there any way you could file a formal complaint with the company? Even in the form of a letter or email addressed to their customer service department so it gets on record. Or directly with your insurance company? I would at least use threats of those in order to get your money back. My husband works for a carrier - I find it hard to believe that the pharmacy or insurance company can't do anything.
apricot / 344 posts
@mrsjd: I'm definitely going to take it higher and make sure there is something in writing on it. Because someone in your office either typed the wrong thing, or someone in packing added an extra, I'm getting charged? That can't be right.
@NORTHSTAR - no money can really be sent back since I didn't "pay" anything, but they should be able to credit my account the amount of the overage. The woman was sweet and said, well a lot of times you have to do this more than once so maybe you'll be able to use them for the next time. Unfortunately we've already done this once and without coverage, there most likely won't be a 3rd round of IVF. And by charging unwanted drugs this time, you're cutting down those chances even further.
clementine / 777 posts
@waiting4you: Yes, and I would document document document, to the extent you can - make sure it's not all verbal telephone calls. That way you can show them and your insurance carrier (if necessary). Perhaps your doctor could help provide supporting documentation of the amounts you needed, etc. Just a thought. (I'm a lawyer, I want everything to be in writing even if ultimately it's just a "he said, she said" kind of situation)
pomegranate / 3809 posts
@waiting4you: I'm sorry that happened. I really hope they can fix it. That's ridiculous if you confirmed with them the right quantities!
I actually have the opposite experience though. I always tried to get the MOST meds I could get. Even when I had a pen left over and knew I only needed 2 more, I would use an order that had 4 so I would have more extra. So my reasoning was that I have a dollar limit on my fertility coverage for drugs specifically... but I pay a copay for each order of an individual item, not per item. So whether I have 1 pen or 4 pens in my order, I pay the same copay. Not that I really wanted to get to a 3rd round, but by the time I did, I didn't have to pay any copays for that round for the pens. (That's the only one I really try to stock up on since it's the most expensive oop, and the highest copay). It really depends on how the insurance works.
nectarine / 2192 posts
@waiting4you: That's terrible! I hope it gets worked out. You make a good
Point- my doc is convenient but I'm paying out of pocket for everything. We're looking about 12,000 if we don't have anything to freeze, 13,000 if we do. I did a lot to save money, but requiring high doses of meds to stim sucks. While I don't have any IF coverage except diagnostic, I've had three bills that were incorrect- either I shouldn't have gotten them in the first place, or my HSG was charged at $1000 more than I had been told. This process is already hard enough without all this.
Ultrasound went well. Six good ones on the left, four good ones on the right plus a few "maybes." He amended his estimate from 8-12 eggs and said "plenty to work with." Uterine lining already at 8, which surprised me since Dr. Google says my estrogen is on the low end. Day 3 (after two doses) was 47, day 5 (after four doses) was 90.6. Today's level (day 7) is pending. My doc is happy with the rise, so I'm trusting him. I'm waiting for the call with official results but I expect it will be same dose (gonal f 375 plus menopur 75) and adding ganirelix.
apricot / 344 posts
@PurplePumps: Interesting. I'm always amazed at the intricacies of insurance policies! We have $15k of coverage but no copays for IVF and IVF meds. So everything is covered till we get to the 15k mark, then it's all out of pocket. That's why I'm so crazy about every dollar. I did run into a situation like this with copays for the "non fertility" drugs we are Rx'ed, specifically doxycycline. My RE puts my husband and I on it for 5 days right in the beginning of each cycle. This time they put all the pills in one Rx instead of an Rx for hubby and an Rx for myself. Saved us the copay on that, which was only $10..but hey, every $10 makes a difference.
We also found out that some of our drugs are considered non-fertility and don't go against the $15k (the antibiotics, methylprednisolone and the endometrin) Maybe this is something for others to look into with their RE's/Insurance companies.
I really hope that we don't have to go to a 3rd round, but if we do, I now have meds ready to go.

Estrogen went from 47 day 3 to 90.6 day 5 to 285 day 7 (today). RE is happy. I think I start ganirelix tonight but the nurse is double checking.

@waiting4you: That is awful. That said, none of our clinics or med pharmacies here will take returned drugs either - but if THEY were at fault, they should leave them with you free of charge.

OK, so I'm a total dork, but look at the difference in my E2 from 2012 when I ended up with OHSS (red) and this cycle (blue). This cycle is so much better already and I'm really hoping this results in good embryo quality!! I'm feeling really hopeful. U/S was good today (stim day 10). I started Cetrotide this afternoon and have another U/S tomorrow morning.

@waiting4you: I can't believe this! As if you need the headache of dealing with extra meds and extra costs. I really hope that they resolve this for you in a reasonable way - either the pharmacy or the insurance.

Hellobee won't let me edit, but I realized my post earlier was off. At cycle start, RE predicted 10-15 eggs. At first ultrasound, said 5-10 eggs, today he increased it to 8-12, and said "plenty to work with." Based on google searches a few days ago, I'm wondering if my estrogen is still a little low, but it's going up nicely and RE is happy, so I'm trusting that. I've been doing gonal F, but after tonight, I'm switching to follistim. I had to order more, and it's much easier to get follistim quickly. My RE said they're interchangeable. I need to watch the video soon to load the cartridge. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of you and all the support.
nectarine / 2192 posts
@GreenThumb: Agreed. I start ganirelix tonight and another ultrasound tomorrow. When do you expect egg retrieval to be? Mine is estimated at Thursday.
We're doing an intralipid treatment tomorrow due to my NK cells at 34%. DH is able to infuse them (much cheaper- yea!), and RE is ok with that. My RE is somewhat progressive on immunologic treatment, but not as aggressive as I'd like. He is starting me on prednisone after retrieval. He didn't recommend intralipids, but when I brought it up, he was fine with it. I called Sher institute about the infusion rate, and she was awesome. She said that they rarely see NK cells over 20%, and 34% was higher than she'd ever seen. She said I could have been sick (I felt badly at the time but thought it was due to starting cabergoline), or lab error. I've had high prolactin levels, which can activate NK cells as well. She said the level needs to be under 10% for a healthy pregnancy. Of course, this makes me nervous. She said for the patients around 20%, they do two treatments plus steroids. Does anyone have any insights?
apricot / 452 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: I replied to your other thread but have more to add. My re was really aggressive with the immunology. I think my nk was under 20% but still elevated. I had an infusion before the transfer, on the day of the transfer and soon after. My numbers did not go down sufficiently so I had one or two more during my first trimester. I had a successful pregnancy. The infusions are pretty easy. For mine it was an iv drip for a few hours. I was also on a low dose steroid before transfer but that is standard procedure for all et regardless of nk levels.

I was silly and was hoping this Femara cycle before IVF round 8/9/ican't remember/too many to remember would be awesome and give us a miracle baby.
Nope. BFN. I am so over this hope.

@jaguar: Sending hugs. I'm sorry for the BFN. You're not silly for hoping. I was hopeful for you, too! Even when my head tells my heart that it's not going to happen (like on a BCPs pre-cycle), I hope.

@jaguar: Hug! You're not silly. I've done that too. There's just enough miracle stories to make you think you'll be one too.
Appointment was fine. 7 good ones on left, 4 on right, plus some maybes. Largest is 15mm. I asked how many mature eggs he expected, which was 7-10. He used the word "great" and might drop my meds based on the estrogen, which is pending. I'm doing the intralipid treatment right now.
@GreenThumb: how was your appointment?
pear / 1986 posts
@jaguar: Oh I don't think you are silly at all! As hard as it is, hope is healthy. I'm so sorry that this cycle wasn't the one. Hugs!
@AmeliaBedilia: So glad your check was great this morning!! Really awesome that your first IVF has been so good! Good luck with the infusion today. I don't know anything about NK cells, but it is great that you were so proactive about it!!
My check was really good! Sounds like they will want me to go in again tomorrow and we might trigger tomorrow night. ER would be on Tuesday !
cherry / 107 posts
@waiting4you: I like to think that way too. My insurance coverage is even weirder: 20K in coverage, 5 lifetime prescriptions of meds, with a max of 3 per cycle. I then found out that ovidrel and ganrilex (and all non-injectibles) are covered normally, only the stim meds fall under this weird 5 prescription thingy. So because of my crazy high dosage for DOR I need to buy one stim prescription this cycle OOP, and if I do a second round then I will need to buy 2 stim prescriptions OOP. I'm trying to figure out my doses after adding Menopur to my Follitism so I can see which will be cheaper to buy OOP and which I should use my last prescription for. Where do they come up with this stuff?
The variation in protocols is so interesting too. My us/blood is given while still on BC (for everyone on BC protocol, not just me because of my endo). If all is well then that day is the last day of pills and my stims start 3 days later.
@jaguar: That sucks. Sorry hon.
@AmeliaBedilia: Glad to hear the IVF is going well! The NK cells is sucky, but it sounds like your doc has it in all hand. I'll be on prednisone myself for 5 days after ER because we're using ICSI.
@GreenThumb: Glad this cycle is going better! Wising great things for your ER!

Yikes, E2 plateaued so I have to increase Gonal-F tonight. Headed in for U/S tomorrow. Ugh, please don't let this cycle stall out!
ETA: I found this from an RE on the SIRM website. It makes me feel a whole lot better because I just started cetrotide last night. "If you started cetrotide just before the estradiol drop it may simply be due to this; cetrotide and ganirelix will artificially lower your estradiol level and doesnt actually have any clinical relevance. (In other words the estradiol level becomes unreliable as a gauge of follicle size or growth when one uses cetrotide or ganirlelix). In such antagonist cycles you must go by the follicle sizes and their development in order to know when the stim is adequate, and most importantly, when to trigger with hCG."
nectarine / 2192 posts
@GreenThumb: That's rough but hopefully it's just the ganirelix.
@Aqualov: I bought some of my meds overseas since it was cheaper at ivf pharmacy.com. I think follistim 300 was $160, plus you need the pen for $15, but the pen can be used for any cartridges. They were out of stock on follistim 300, so I bought gonal f which was comparable in price. Menopur is $350 for 10. Shipping is $25 and guaranteed to arrive in two weeks. The solution is slightly different than in he US, but it is still easy. Shipping is $25 and guaranteed to arrive in two weeks. In the U.S., I believe follistim is cheapest at winfertility. It's $205/follistim 300 which includes a pen. They won't tell you that, and you have to buy it with another medication, but several are around $1 (estrace, aspirin, dexamethasone or Zithromax). Menopur is around $75-80 several places, but it's higher at winfertility. I couldn't find Menopur for under $75 except in Europe.
AFM, estrogen is 466, up from 285 yesterday. My doc is happy, but is keeping me at the same high dose. He had mentioned possibly decreasing he dose, but no luck.
