@yellowbeach: I just want to say how awesome and strong you are for doing all these transfers and retrievals back to back. I know it's not fun. You go lady! Your baby is coming!

@Mrs Lavender: Thanks lady. I'm starting to stress about a retrieval set for Saturday and no coverage at work. Has anyone had this issue? I've emailed my RE nurse to see if there's a way to stretch the meds to aim for a Monday retrieval instead. I can't even believe this luck.

@yellowbeach: Is this a position where you can take a personal day? If your boss knows what’s going on maybe she can help get someone. I would think stretching the meds could alter the outcome.

@yellowbeach: totally agree with @Mrs Lavender: you are seriously committed to this and doing whatever it takes to get your rainbow baby and that takes SO much strength, grit, endurance, etc. especially given your high stress career and DD at home (she is 2 right?). Phew it's a lot lady. I was definitely you a few years ago so I just want to reach into this computer every time I see your updates and give you a huge hug. I can so relate, it's crazy.

As for work on retrieval day, I would definitely pull any strings you can to make sure you get to rest that day. It's literally surgery and you wouldn't be able to safely/comfortably perform an office job after that. I wasn't comfortable telling my boss about IVF but I said I had to have minor outpatient surgery that required anesthesia. Just providing that information, and that you can't control the date of the surgery...they have to figure something out. Don't you have sick time? I always took sick time for IVF stuff.

So I found someone currently scheduled to work overnight on Friday who is willing to switch with me and work my Saturday day shift. That means I work 10pm-7am the night before my retrieval. I can swing that since I’m basically just sleeping for the procedure anyway, but I still have to work at 9am Sunday which is going to suck in terms of circadian rhythm. I can make it work though. Follicle check at 7:30am tomorrow and will hopefully get the green light for Saturday retrieval.

And thank you ladies for the encouragement. Some days I feel like I am barely holding it together. I try not to be too hard on myself and remind myself this is an intense process, but some days it just sucks.

    I want my rainbow. 🌈

@yellowbeach: That's great news! I can definitley relate to barely holding it together. It's no longer IVF, just trying to work, be a good mom/wife/sister/friend. It's a lot no matter what stage of life you are in and it's important to admit that. Some days really really suck. But that day you get your BFP and welcome your new LO to the word will make it all worth it. Promise!

I've decided that I really need to get going on things, and will probably cash out savings since my husband won't get paid for a few months (he's commission only).
I will do my hysteroscopy next cycle, and doc said I can do retrieval that mo the too, just no transfer. What do y'all think about that? Should I wait one more month after that since I won't do transfer until July or August?
Also, what CD do you generally start meds?

    nectarine / 2648 posts

@LAZB: I had DD on a fresh transfer off our first retrieval so I am biased to think that the womb is nice and revved up to accept that embie during a retirval cycle. I know a lot of REs have opinions on fresh vs frozen FET though as data a few years back showed better rates with FET than fresh. I'm excited for you to get started though.

AFM, had another ultrasound this morning. 11 on right, 9 on left, and estradiol 1375 today. Going back tomorrow for another ultrasound, but we are now looking at a SUnday retrieval. So the coverage I had lined up for Saturday was a bust. I did find coverage for Sunday though and am off Monday, so I think I have all contingencies covered.

On a sad note my 2 day old nephew is super sick and currently in the OR getting emergency surgery. DH really wants to be down at he hospital (2 hrs away) where is brother and SIL are, but of course we are both stuck working today. He's 4 hrs into exploratory abdominal surgery with a likely bowel ressection.

@yellowbeach: oh no! I hope he does ok with the surgery, that sounds very scary

@yellowbeach: Sunday for retrieval sounds so much nicer!! Having off the day after sounds much less stressful. So sorry to hear about your nephew. That sound serious.

@LAZB: I'm kind of confused by your question. lol Is your RE saying he wants you to do a frozen? If you wanted to wait until July or August to transfer, that's totally up to you and your schedule. Lots of people decide to wait a couple months after retrieval to transfer. That's the great thing about having embryos frozen, you can start up your FET when it works for you. I sadly couldn't do a fresh transfer, my estrogen was too high. I also waited a couple cycles after my retrieval because I was waiting for pgs results, going on vacation, then it was the holiday. It's exciting you are thinking about getting started! When are you sitting down with your clinic to get your timeline?

AFM, we have a plan! I met with my RE yesterday and we talked for an hour. We ultimately decided to do a Laparoscopy surgery to check for inflammation/endo. I've had some symptoms of endo off an on my entire life and she felt after 2 failed implantations it's definitely worth checking out. I'm very nervous about this surgery. Anyone ever have a Lap? I'll then try a natural cycle w/ trigger and PIO. I'll also be adding my clinics autoimmune protocol. I actually got a little more hope back.

  12. LAZB

    pomegranate / 3904 posts

@Mrs Lavender: sorry, it was confusing! I am definitely doing FET only so we can test the embryos. Getting pregnant isn't my issue, but having healthy pregnancies is. We want to wait to transfer so we don't have to worry as much about having a newborn during cold and flu season.
As far as having a lap, I had one 6 years ago when I found out I have stage 4 endometriosis. Since my lap I haven't had any issues getting pregnant, so hopefully it helps you too!
I've had a lot of my Endo symptoms lately (massive bloating aka Endo belly, pain in my butt, crampiness), so that's part of what is prompting my hurry, I don't want the Endo to grow back and make it even harder to get pregnant.

Gosh I feel like the lead up to this retrieval is taking forever. I think they are monitoring me more closely since last cycle was such a bust. On ultrasound this morning I have 22 follicles but my left ovary seems to be growing and maturing faster than the right. She wants to do another ultrasound tomorrow morning to look at things before deciding for sure Sunday vs Monday retrieval. I sure hope it's Sunday because if it's Monday, we won't be able to do a FET this cycle as I'm headed to Atlanta with DD to visit an old girlfriend late Friday night. Sunday retrieval makes Day 5 transfer Fri morning but a Monday retrieval makes Day 5 Sat which is a no-go. Also got another estradiol level drawn this morning. We shall see. But I'll tell you what - I acutely started feeling totally bloated and full of follicles right after eating some yogurt for breakfast. So nauseated as well. This is going to be a long ride to Sunday/Monday.

    @yellowbeach: fingers crossed it's Sunday!

Ok, so I called my RE's office to get the ball rolling. They are ordering a bunch of blood work for next Wednesday, and I will have a hysteroscopy at the beginning of next cycle. We will need to wait for results from caryotyping and also to get my meds in, so next month is off, but we should be good to go for the month after.
I feel better that at least I have things started. I have been taking CoQ10, but I am going to start dhea as well, so maybe my eggs will have more of a chance to respond.

Ultrasound showed about 19 or 20 follicles at good size. Triggering tonight with 2 Ovidrel shots with retrieval scheduled for 9am Sunday morning and FET at 11am Friday (a week from today). Almost there...

Still no update yet. My clinic is trying to torture me.

  20. yellowbeach

    nectarine / 2648 posts

    Update is in!
    16 eggs were retrieved yesterday.
-9 of the eggs were mature (Meiosis II)
    -3 were immature (Meiosis I)
-4 were very immature (Germinal Vesicle)

The important part....9 eggs were fertilized and 7 fertilized normally!

Just last cycle we only had 2 that fertilized (Meiosis II), so 7 is a HUGE improvement! Now fingers crossed that they continue to grow to blasts!

I swear my clinic must think I'm a pest, but still no Day 3 update yet. Back in 2016 when we did our first round with them and they were a fairly smaller practice, we got timely, personal phone calls from the same nurse at each stage. Now 2.5 years later, I get a portal message at unpredictable times, usually after I've inquired. So here I sit waiting and trying to distract myself.

Day 3 update! All 7 of the embryos that fertilized normally are still growing!

    Here is the breakdown:
    (1) 10 cell grade 1
    (4) 8 cell grade 1
    (1) 7 cell grade 1
    (1) 5 cell grade 1

Transferred today. Pretty uneventful. One of our 7 is ready for biopsy today at Day 5 and she’s hoping 3 maybe 4 more will make it to biopsy tomorrow.

@Mrs Lavender: Any news on your laparoscopy? We plan to do mine to "officially officially" confirm my endo sometime postpartum and once my cycle returns, etc.

  31. yellowbeach

@foodiebee: we transferred our 40% mosaic monosomy 2 from the cycle just before this that was generally a bust.

  32. Mrs Lavender

@foodiebee: It's scheduled for May 15th. The day after we get back from vacation in Vegas! This failed transfer hit us so hard. We decided we needed a fun vacation to bring us some joy and bought a Peloton bike. I went right back on BC just in case my clinic had a surgery cancelation, but now I'm thinking I may want to wait until we get back from Vegas. I do not want to jeopardize our trip if I have a hard recovery. I also went off all vitamins, it feels so freeing. I had this sudden urge to run away from all things TTC, even if it's just for a month or so... I'll start back up once I have my surgery. I'm nervous but so curious if they will find anything! I feel like I should've had this done years ago.

@yellowbeach: Congrats on your transfer! Did you get your final blast report from your clinic?

@Mrs Lavender: not yet - will come Monday. Expecting 4 at best but I think they are much healthier than last retrieval.

  35. foodiebee

    kiwi / 662 posts

@Mrs Lavender: LOVE that you're doing something for yourselves that's unrelated to TTC! Go, Vegas! I wish we'd done this with our second failed IUI, because that one really crushed us. And going off vitamins I can relate to a bit. I stopped taking CoQ10 around that failed IUI, because it wasn't dr mandated and I couldn't convince myself it was doing anything. (I mean, you have a 50% chance of thinking it's doing something, right? If you get preggo, you think it worked; if you don't, you think it failed. That and temping and shots and pills and appointments and money and follicles ... It was driving me nuts.) Do what you gotta do for your mental health!

    @yellowbeach: Thinking of you today!

    Today's Embryo update:

Friday 4/12: 1 Day 5 Embryo was biopsied and frozen grade 4AB

Saturday 4/13: 3 more were biopsied and frozen
    4BB
    3BC
    3CC

Grand total of 4 Embryos biopsied and frozen.

Now here's to staying busy during this 2WW. Started having menstrual cramps last night. Going to be a long week. Not testing out my trigger this time though. Too stressful and mind-consuming to think about this and overanalyze everything every day.

@Mrs. Pajamas: I ordered a playroom storage system from PBK and now have 9 separate pieces to assemble. One per night if I’m lucky and motivated enough.

@yellowbeach: haahaha well I was thinking something more fun like a pedicure or night out with friends, but if assembling storage systems gets the job done distracting you, go for it!
