IVF Thread #4

OK, I’ve officially decided to not do a transfer this cycle (Which would be in July) because the dates aren’t lining up, and I feel like it would be too stressful to make it work. We will do next cycle instead.
Of the four embryos that were sent off and tested, three made it to blastocysts at six days, and one was at seven days. The three top contenders have a 63% chance of a live birth, and the straggler has a 36% chance. Still waiting on genetics though

@LAZB: Balancing travel and IVF is always hard... we are headed to Denmark June 30-July 10, so next cycle is essentially out for anything. I feel like I don't want to put travel on hold (might be right for some people though) because I might be doing IVF for 2 or more years. That's a long time to have your life on hold, and especially if coming up negative like we are, I want to feel like we lived life during the process. I feel the same way about missing aspects of DD growing up. Trying to be more centered around her.

Remind me - did you do testing just for PGS or did you do PGD for a specific genetic condition? I want to say just PGS.

As for us, tomorrow we are transferring 3 abnormals (not even mosaics). I'm a tad frustrated bc I asked my RE to send me which embryos the embryologist is recommending transferring. I had hoped to run them by one of the online forums for mosaic and abnormal transfers, but there probably won't be time for feedback at this point. I'm not sure that me knowing what the abnormalities were would change anything - not like I would refuse and say pick embryo X instead, but emotionally I like having all the info ahead of time and just being prepared. It also worries me that they aren't taking time to make the decision and might be making it last minute. I don't think that's actually true - but it's where my mind is going at the moment. Supposedly they look at the PGS report from RGI AND at embryo grade and make their selection.

    1pm tomorrow it happens.

@yellowbeach: we did pgs testing. We did karyotype testing and the genetic screening testing, and came up clean on both, so we just need pgs.

It's IVF time for me again! AF started today and I'm going in tomorrow for my baseline!

    Backstory:
My first IVF jaunt was back in January 2018. We wound up with 4 embryos, two 3-days and two 5-days. Had a failed fresh transfer with one of the 3-days and then had a successful FET with one of the 5-days. The day after my FET there was a tank malfunction and my remaining two embryos were lost (long story, can't go into it), so now I'm back for round two!

@Marfi: Welcome back! I think there are about 4 of us actively engaged in IVF right now. I can’t even imagine losing a single embryo never the less your whole batch due to a mechanical issue. I’m sure that’s emotionally charged. Will your RE let you transfer before 12 months postpartum, or do you just plan to retrieve for now?

Well I was wrong. Not happening this month cyst on left ovary that they want to see what happens. Kinda annoyed that it might mean that next month might be out too if nothing happens since they aren’t gonna keep an eye on it this month but oh well.

@Marfi: Can they get you on the pill this month? It's usually a pretty good way to clear up any pesky cysts.

@Marfi: that happend to me too and I was given a shot of Ovidrel to Ovulate away the cyst. Worked like a charm and was able to do a FET shortly after. good luck!

Y’all, I’m in shock! Just heard back about our genetic results, and 3 of the 4 were genetically normal! I can’t believe it! And they are all 5 AA graded

Interestingly, I just read that 72% of 5AA embryos are boys, so defying the odds! Lol

  26. jaguar

    pomegranate / 3764 posts

That is amazing! I'm surprised they tell you the sex of the embies, it's illegal here. :o

  27. Mrs. Pajamas

    kiwi / 702 posts

@jaguar: Agreed. I had PGS done on my embryos and I don't remember sex ever coming up but lots of people on this board know ahead of time. In fact I recently looked through the detailed report we got and it was not on there. Did you request it @LAZB:?

  28. LAZB

    pomegranate / 3904 posts

@Mrs. Pajamas: no, The nurse asked me if I wanted to know when she called with the genetic results. She told me about threebeing genetically normal, and then she asked if we wanted to know the sex of the embryos. I asked if that would mean we would know which one we are transferring (we didn't want to pick), and she kind of hesitated and said yes. I asked if that meant that they were all the same, and she said yes. So I decided to find out

  29. jaguar

    pomegranate / 3764 posts

How cool! Yeah, here they won't tell you because you aren't supposed to be able to pick which sex to transfer. (To ensure people aren't selecting based on sex, I guess.) The exception to the rule is people with sex-based genetic issues, I think!

@jaguar: I’m just so excited to have another girl (fingers crossed 🤞). I think I’d probably feel the same about another boy too, but I’m excited to know what we have. Also, I really wanted a sister for my daughter. It is a little sad knowing I won’t have any more sons, though.

So at 6dp5dt. I’ll test again in the morning bust just for formality sake.

I’m really torn between trying one more retrieval (feel lucky that insurance pays 100% and won’t have this insurance in say 6 months from now). The only down side to a retrieval is stress of schedule shuffling and disappointment if we get very few embryos again. I do pretty well physically with the meds and the retrieval itself.

I think this cycle we’ll sit out since we are traveling to Denmark for 10 days. Maybe being away will give me some clarity. I oscillate between holding out some hope that the odds will eventually be in our favor, and then thinking it’ll never work because there’s some unexplained thing going on with me that we don’t know about and haven’t corrected.

Ugh. I’ve had to delete all IVF boards on Fb bc the BFPs are just too numerous.

  33. LAZB

    pomegranate / 3904 posts

@yellowbeach: ugh, I’ve been waiting for your update, I’m sorry even though it was kind of expected, it still sucks. If it were me, I’d probably do one more retrieval. Prepare yourself for that being “it”, but then you won’t go back and question “what if”. That’s just me though...

  34. jaguar

    pomegranate / 3764 posts

@yellowbeach: Could you potentially do a round without PGD? Give yourself more chance at transfers, etc? Big massive hugs. xx

  35. yellowbeach

    nectarine / 2648 posts

@jaguar: that’s the exact thought that I had too... bc we are putting mosaics and abnormals in anyway. And now if we aren’t doing PGS, I wonder why we are doing IVF since we got pregnant once naturally too. My head is spinning. I just want another baby. 😣

@yellowbeach: SOOO many hugs girl. Oof that is not an easy pill to swallow. The unknown and uncertainty is so so hard. Your perseverance will pay off eventually. I remember being in awe of @SweetiePie and @PurplePumps who both went through so many retrievals but ultimately had success. Enjoy our trip to Denmark--that sounds dreamy and a perfect way to focus on the present and be grateful.

@yellowbeach: Totally understand. It is a gamble yes, but all the time and energy going into fresh stims, it's heartbreaking to see your options gone before they've had a chance. Big hugs. xx

@Mrs. Pajamas: Absolutely. It's so hard watching, but your resilience will pay off ladies. Lots of love

So... retrieval #4 in July with meds starting right when we get back from Denmark. They initially said the new lab director was limiting the number of retrieval’s at once (for the clinic) and said I had to wait until Aug, but when I mentioned waiting a month would mean an extra $711 to extend COBRA , they said they would let me do July.

Haven’t run the plan by DH yet - only because we haven’t seen each other all day and I want to talk about it in person.

    nectarine / 2648 posts

    Just an update on me...

CD1 will likely be today and I'll start OCPs. We decided we want to do one more retrieval this month since we have the insurance and won't have it in say 6 months from now.

We'll start monitoring for this cycle after we get back from Denmark (hence the need for the OCPs) and have a target retrieval date of July 24-26.

We are likely NOT going to do any PGS testing this round. Our daughter (and our only successful IVF) was our one and only fresh transfer, so we want to try another fresh transfer this round. Hopefully we will have at least one embryo to transfer. There's always that risk of another T21 diagnosis, but as we've learned with our daughter, there are no guarantees on health at any point. You just do what you can and cross each bridge as you come to it. In fact, she is seeing Neurology this week for a likely new diagnosis of seizures. It is what it is.

@yellowbeach: Creepy-peeping 👀 since I will be joining in the next few months. The best of luck to you this up-and-coming cycle ... You really deserve your lucky baby Yellowbeach. 💛 Also- Have an amazing time in Denmark! I've always wanted to go so I can't wait to hear how it was. 😁
