@OMM4: welcome!! I was very anxious and stressed before my beta. I wound up testing a few days early and got a bfn. Only a couple of us haven't had success yet on this thread. There has been way more BFPs. Hopefully you continue that!

@OMM4: Welcome! I just got through my IVF TWW and it was the hardest TWW I have ever been through! I really don't have any advice other than try not to concentrate on it too much. I was lucky that work was super busy during that time but it is still hard. What day is your beta on?

@Shutterbug @apex @twodoghouse: Thank you ladies-- very sweet of you! I can't believe I did this, but I resisted the temptation to POAS. I thought it would make me too crazy. So I genuinely have no clue how this will go. I should hear back by the end of the day

Well the office is now closed and no one ever called me with my result. To say I'm livid is the understatement of the year. Should I POAS? Is it better to wait until morning? Then again, in the AM, I could just wait to talk to the dr. Arghhh, I can't believe this is happening.

@OMM4: that is unbelievable. I am so sorry. I would poas in your situation.

@OMM4: well that sucks. how many dpo are you now? if you had any pee sticks on hand, i guess you could poas. but otherwise, since you've waited this long. just wait 1 more night if you can

@OMM4: That is so careless of them! I think you could POAS at this point if you're fine with finding out that way.

Unfortunately, it's negative. Thank you for the support ladies. I'm hurting, but I have to believe that it will happen for us someday.

@OMM4: I am so sorry. It will happen some day. Do you have any frozen embryos?

  18. OMM4

    coffee bean / 25 posts

@justdarling We have two. I want to give my body (and spirit!) a little bit of a break, so I think after the holidays, we'll try again w/a FET. If anyone has any FET tips, I'd welcome them.

  19. justdarling

    apricot / 452 posts

@OMM4: That sounds like a really great plan. I actually just did a FET. Compared to other things, it was really easy. We did a natural FET so I had to do OPKs and once I got a positive that's when I started medications. If you have any questions about it, I am happy to answer them when the time comes. Try to enjoy your time off.

@OMM4: So sorry to hear it. I had a failed fresh cycle, a failed FET, and then a successful fresh cycle. I think with IVF, we expect it to work the first time, but statistically that can't always be the case. It doesn't mean it won't work eventually. Good luck, and let us know if you have any questions. I agree that the FET cycle is a breeze physically.

@OMM4: I'm sorry I have no experience with FETs, but my current plan is to start IVF in January (also taking a break for the holidays) so I'll be right there with you!

@OMM4: I'm so sorry. Taking a break to enjoy the holidays sounds like a good idea so you can get some emotional space from this cycle!

@OMM4: I'm so sorry. I had a failed fresh cycle too and am getting ready for an FET in December. We took a couple months off and it has been great for my mental health.

  25. Apex

    clementine / 770 posts

@OMM4: So sorry about the BFN, i hear the FET has better success rated overall, so i'm sure you would fare better with an FET.

I never did a fresh cycle because i was overstimulated, but i got my bfp with the FET the following cycle, which was relatively easy stuff, and also required taking much less meds.

@OMM4: I agree with @Apex in that I have been hearing that FETs have been getting better success rates than fresh cycles. Actually, my RE does not do any fresh cycles anymore. He will do the ET one month, wait a month, and then do a FET for the transfer. He feels that the women's body responds better during a FET cycle when we can just concentrate on getting the uterus ready and she is not already full of the stims.

@OMM4: I'm so sorry to hear about your result. Your plan to take it easy through the holidays sounds great. I'm sure it will help to feel rejuvenated for your FET!

The reality is slowly, heartbreakingly, starting to set in and I'm realizing I'm not super happy with the communication at my current clinic. RE was always felt a bit rushed and I never knew why he chose the specific protocol that he did. Plus, there's the whole forgetting to call me on beta day thing, after I called them twice to inquire about the status. I actually had to call them the next day to find out whether I was pregnant.

They have great success rates per SART, but now I'm bitter. I'm considering transferring our frozen embryos to another clinic for the next try. Does this sound insane/risky?I'm upset at the lack of sensitivity/communication and wonder how close attention they're paying. But I don't know if I'm asking for trouble by moving our frozen embryos. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

  29. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@OMM4: I don't have any experience with transferring frozen embryos, but I did once see someone's frozens arriving at my clinic from another clinic. I think that if after meeting with your RE you honestly feel that another clinic can do better, it may be worth exploring your options. After my failed fresh cycle I was angry that my clinic carelessly chose the wrong protocol for me and pushed me through the cycle when I should have been canceled, just so they could keep the money. It was a risk switching clinics but I'm so glad I did.

If you think you might want to stay, maybe it would help to ask lots of detailed questions at your follow-up about their plan and why. Someone told me once that the first time around you do what the RE tells you to but the second time around you tell the RE what to do.

Thank you ladies for your support! I'm so glad I joined this board when I did -- it's been very comforting to me.

Quick follow-up question for everyone: before you started IVF, was your thyroid checked?

  31. justdarling

    apricot / 452 posts

@OMM4: Hi! Yes, my thyroid was checked before starting IVF. It was actually one of the first blood tests that I got when we first started to get testing done.

  32. OMM4

    coffee bean / 25 posts

I was looking over my original bloodwork and noticed that my thyroid wasn't checked. I was wondering if this was typical...

I'm gearing up to start my FET! I just placed an order for more lupron and endometrin. Next Friday I have my first blood draw and ultrasound. Then it is a weekly blood draw to check my estrogen level with a tentative transfer date of 12/18.

  34. raintreebee

    @Leialou: yay!

@OMM4: my thyroid was definitely checked. i think that is a pretty basic infertility test.

@Leialou: That's so exciting!!! Hoping for a Christmas BFP for you

@OMM4: I know I'm late in reply, but I'm a firm believer that your instinct is more important than a success rate. I've had doctors that were supposed to be excellent but I didn't feel comfortable with them so I left. IF is such a stressful thing, why add to the stress? Good luck either way you go!

Hi Ladies! So I have a question. I got my shipment of injectables yesterday to start this cycle. I got full on AF today (while sitting at a baby shower, no less) and I'm panicking a bit because I thought my RE said to go in on CD1. Does that sound right? Or do I go in tomorrow AM? I know they take walkins from 7:00-8:30am each day.
I'm just afraid I'm missing some important window.
Also, do I take my injectables with me the first appt of this cycle? Do they show me what to do? They said that at the first appt this cycle they'll tell me how much of everything to take and when. So I don't know if that means I take it with me?
    What did you all do??
