Hello everyone. I haven't been doing a great job at following everyone's progress, but I want to say best wishes to all if you.
We've had a lot going on since I was diagnosed with a uterine septum. I had a hysyeroscopy to remove the septum last week. The surgery was pretty easy for me and tomorrow I go back for a hystosonogram to make sure it was successful.
DH can't ejaculate since his accident, so the urologist recommended a testicular sperm extraction. DH agreed to the procedure so we have a follow up to plan it in 2 weeks.
I'm getting really excited because it seems like things are coming together now. DH is excited too. Unfortunately, he had a minor seizure tonight which means his medication will need to be adjusted. I hope he'll stay stable after this.

So I think I'm now an IVF convert because of @twodoghouse: 's ultrasound. DH has been telling me that he really wants bio LOs whenever I bring up adoption. I think he wants to try everything before adoption. Also, our finances have changed... Like drastically. (No, I didnt win the lottery but I do feel like some things have changed.) This time last year, IVF was off the table because I thought it was going to be so much more expensive. But with IVF refund plans, it might not be that much compared to international infant adoption.
Also, some of you know that we've been on a TTC break because I am job hunting. Well, I've applied to about 15 jobs and haven't been called back... At all. I think I need to reorganize my résumé. Also, it's getting towards the end of the year and which means it might be better to stick it out a couple months so I can get my work bonus. It will pay for 1/3 or less than 1/2 of IVF.
Anyway, this all means that we might be back on the TTC train! With now IVF as an option!
I'm on cycle day 6 today and so if I call my RE to restart TTC, we might be able to get a plan started. (Too late to do any procedures this month but it will give us time to think it over emptionally, logistically and financially.) Maybe redo my HSG since its been over a year. Maybe do one last IUI before IVF. (Well, this is of course after meeting with the financial coordinator to see what options they have and if we can afford it.
Ahh, it's so exciting.
So I just read back through the first 8 pages of this thread. A lot of great info and I was at the edge of my seat hearing all the updates!

@bluestriped bee: I am excited and hopeful for you as you TTC again!!!
On your job applications are you listing your current (out-of-state) address? I wonder if that could be having an impact on your lack of call-backs. Do you have family near where you are job searching? Could you use their address (perhaps with an explanation somewhere that you will be relocating there upon receiving a job offer)? It sounds like your job search may be on hold, but that was a thought I had.

@Mrs.Someone: Thank you!
@kentuckygirl: Thank you!
I did write my current address but most of the companies I applied for stated that they were willing to relocate, so I didn't think my address would be an issue.

So question- Did you bring IVF up first or did your RE recommend it first?
grapefruit / 4703 posts
@bluestriped bee: (welcome back!!) my RE gave us all our options after our initial testing. He said at that point IVF would be a drastic step (our dx is unexplained infertility - all tests normal). At our follow up this past Monday after 3 IUIs he gave us our options again, but was sort of guiding us toward IVF. Of course they make the most $$ and have the most success from IVF, so even if you bring it up to them, I doubt you'll get any push-back. Good luck!

@Shutterbug: ok. I called my Dr's nurse and we are scheduling a follow up appt to review my progress. She said we can discuss my past IUIs (had two completed and two cancelled IUIs) and possible IVF.
I was scared because the nurse said my dr was booked for a month out but they got me in on Oct 21st! Woohoo!

@bluestriped bee: Welcome back!! I was going through IF treatments through my OB-Gyn. she does everything through IUI. At my 3rd IUI she brought it up and told me that we could continue with IUIs but she didn't see our chances increasing at all and it would be more cost efficient if we started looking into IVF. At the time, I was not ready to hear that, but I am glad that she was so upfront. WE took a couple of months off and then started the IVF process. Good luck with everything that you are going through.

@bluestriped bee: Oh honey, I'm so excited for you! Yay for TTC again and for IVF being an option! Do you have a diagnosis for your IF or are you unexplained? Sorry, I can't remember your history off the top of my head.
When we sat down with our RE for the first time, he made a chart of all our options (from the "old fashioned way" all the way to IVF) and what he thought our odds were for each. He was very supportive of us deciding whatever was best for us, but he also believed IVF would be straight to the point and what would work best. So he brought it up, but left the ball in our court. I would be prepared to bring up IVF with your RE if he/she doesn't bring it up. I don't know if all REs are as open to jumping to IVF as ours was (we never did IUIs at all), but be your own advocate! If you think this is right for you, start investigating your options. Wishing you lots of luck!
@macintosh: Glad to hear your surgery went well and things are coming together for you. I hope your DH doesn't experience any more seizures. I'll be thinking of you two!
@justdarling: Wow, it's amazing to hear about the details of your FET! I'm so excited for you!!

@justdarling: Yay! Thinking super sticky and healthy thoughts for you Hope all goes well.

@twodoghouse: So far my diagnosis is unexplained. All my tests are normal. DH has had low morphology but the IUIs should have helped that.
We are seeing the RE on the 21st and she's going to review our charts. DH wants to try one more IUI before going to IVF. If this IUI is completed and not cancelled like the two I had, it will make a total of 3 IUIs completed before proceeding to IVF. I think it would be reasonable to try IVF next. Now, that I've done my research in IVF, maybe the unsuccessful IUIs were because the sperm wasn't entering the egg. Hopefully IVF will help with that!
DH is a little worried about the money and the chance that it might not give us a child. I told him about the IVF refund/ guarantee programs. Have any of you done them? My clinic has a refund program where they give you 70% of your money back after a year of not carrying a pregnancy upto 12 weeks. My only concern is what happens if I m/c after 12 weeks. There are other clinics that offer a guarantee of a take home baby and I'm wondering if I should go that route. It's just that we would be completely devastated emotionally and financially if we m/c after 12 weeks after paying that money towards IVF.
@justdarling: Good luck! Sending lots of positive thoughts for you today!

@justdarling: prayers for a sticky embryo or two! I hope your waiting period goes by fast for you!
honeydew / 7230 posts
@bluestriped bee: As far as a refund/guarantee program - my office did not have any sort of refund program. However, they did have a two cycle program you could choose. You paid a lump sum (a little less than 2x a single cycle price ) and if you did not have a live birth with your first cycle, you could go on to try it a second time. There may have been a 3 cycle package as well. We just went with the basic one cycle plan because we could pay that without dipping into our long term savings. Doing one of the other options would have been more money than we were comfortable spending. It worked out for us because our IVF cycle worked the first time. I think if it had not worked the first time, we would have waited another year to save up and try it again. That would have really sucked, but we were very adamant that we only spend money that we felt comfortable spending and wouldn't have any long term affects on our savings.
I hope your appointment with the RE goes well on the 21st. Keep us updated!

Thanks for all the good thoughts yesterday. Everything went great. I think the requirement for a full bladder was the worst part!!! Our embryo survived the thaw and continued to grow. By the time of the transfer it was 60% hatched. Now hopefully the little one sticks!!!
This picture is when it was just thawed about 3 hours before the transfer.

@justdarling: eeeee! What a great picture! Hoping that is the beginning of a beautiful little STICKY baby for you!

@bluestriped bee: Our RE also does a refund program very similar to yours and we went for the program. The way they do it, you have to meet certain medical criteria to even be part of the program. Since you meet this criteria, your odds of conceiving are already pretty high. We get 80% back if we don't carry till 12 weeks. The reason why we went for it is because we do like some sort of guarantee. I think I am more worried about not conceiving at all since I have not gotten a BFP before and am not as worried about a mc at 12 weeks. The program we are in also includes as many FETs as we have embryos. That is less of a cost since a single cycle only included 1 transfer. We figured this gave us several chances at this instead of just one. Hopefully we don't need the other chances and this works the first time.
Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try to help you out as much as possible. It is a hard decision to make since it is so expensive!!!! In the end, you have to do what you feel most comfortable with.

@justdarling: Beautiful picture! Hope you're taking it easy today and relaxing! Do you have your betas scheduled?
apricot / 452 posts
@twodoghouse: My betas are schedules for the 24th and the 26th. This is going to be the longest TWW ever!!! I stopped symptom spotting with my IUIs, but now I am concentrating on everything!! I think this is the worst part.
honeydew / 7230 posts
@justdarling: Try to find something to distract yourself - a book or a project or something to keep your mind off the next week. The 24th will be here before you know it! Will you test before the betas? Oh I'm so excited for you!

@PointeShoesTutus: How are you feeling? Any update on your test results?
clementine / 797 posts
@kentuckygirl: thanks for checking in on me. Tests came back negative for a tumor and adrenal issues were ruled out. I posted an update on my OP.
How are things going with you? I looked back and saw you were due for an u/s a while back but couldn't find an update. Hope things are going well.

Hi everyone. Haven't been on here in a little while.. After my last FET failed (around August), I was extremely disappointed. Anyways.. so started another natural cycle in September. I went in for the egg retrieval this past Sunday, and the doctor said he got 57 eggs! Yesterday, he said of the 57, 37 were mature, and 29 were fertilized. As of today, 27 had started dividing. The embryo transfer for this cycle is being canceled due to rising progesterone levels.. but at least I'm getting good news with the embryos. Hopefully we don't lose too many more and we can freeze a majority of the remaining ones. Just wanted to share since I'm back to feeling hopeful and optimistic again.

@msmug: Whoah! 57 eggs. That's amazing! I just got my IVF packet and was reading all into it. Is 57 eggs considered overstimulation? I don't know. I just remember reading the complications that could come from an IVF cycle and I remember wondering if you could have too many eggs.
apricot / 403 posts
@bluestriped bee: the doctors weren't aiming to get that many. It just happened? The last time, they retrieved 30, and I definitely had overstimulation. It was much worse the first time around than it is now. I have abdominal bloating and cramping but the last time, I had all that plus internal bleeding, which was hell.

@msmug: wow 57!! That's crazy! I can't imagine how awful you must have been feeling. I was a miserable b*tch the days leading up to my retrieval and my doctor only got 13.
