@LovelyPlum: @Jenn23: @Apex: thanks! I'm nervous and excited. I have my saline sonogram next week. I can't believe I'm back again.
My RE said to call if I don't get my period by May 7 and I'll get a Provera prescription. The transfer could be by the end of next month...I'm in shock.

@LovelyPlum: we are going to transfer two embryos. I'm thinking about looking for a new job for the 2015-2016 school year and I'd like to be done having kids before I switch positions.

Hi! I have been MIA for a little while. I just needed a break, I was getting a little down after my third failed IUI, but we are going to move on to IVF now. I am excited but very nervous. DH and I will hit the 3 year mark of TTC in August. I have PCOS and Endo, he's fine. Here's my info:
Current Status: Scheduled for updated Day 3 blood work on Friday 04/25. Starting BCP on 04/26. Mock Transfer on 05/12, Injection Class on 05/14, and then starting injections around 05/16 I think she said.
Egg Retrieval: The week of June 9th if my blood work is okay.
Embryo Transfer: Same as above.
Best of luck to everyone!!!

@Sunshine1810: Good luck!! I know how overwhelming all the IVF info is at first, but once you get going with the injections and monitoring, those few weeks will probably fly by. At least with me it did. Before you know it, you'll be ready for retrieval, than transfer!! Do you know how many you'll most likely transfer yet? Good luck with the tests and injections class. I was nervous about the injections because I hate needles, but it went ok. Once my DH and I got the hang of it after a day or two, it wasn't a big deal at all for us. Let me know if you have any questions!

@Jenn23: Thank you!! I am actually already surprised by how fast things are moving now that we are getting going! We are leaning toward transferring two but are going to talk to the doctor a little more before making a final decision on that.
I am nervous about the injections too, I hate needles as well! Thanks for being available to answer my questions, and thank you for your support! It means a lot

@Sunshine1810: I think with the needles, you just kind of get over it, you know? Because you don't have a choice. After a few days of it, I was much more nonchalant about it. Just try not to think much about it and just "get it over with". My husband and I would just talk during the injections so that would help occupy my mind. We transferred two, because we were ok with twins, and actually were kind of hoping for twins. One took so we have our son. I think a lot of it depends on the quality of the embryo, what day you transfer, your age, etc. so yes, talk to your RE about it. Glad to answer any questions you may have.
pear / 1556 posts
@Jenn23: Yeah I can definitely see that. I think I just have to go into it with the attitude that I don't have another option and I just need to do it and get it over with. We are ok with twins as well which is why we are leaning toward two. I'm 32 and DH is almost 42.

@Sunshine1810: you're on your way! Exciting! I was also scared of the injections but I numbed my abdomen with ice before and after so they weren't that bad.
We transferred two embryos because, like @Jenn23: , we were also fine with the possibility of twins. Both embryos implanted but I lost a baby to vanishing twin syndrome at 9 weeks. We are planning on a FET in a few weeks and we will be transferring two again.

@swedishfish: Oooh great suggestion, thanks!! I am so sorry for your loss! Good luck with your upcoming FET!!!! Fingers Crossed for you!!
persimmon / 1085 posts
@swedishfish: So excited for your FET!!! Will you transfer two this time, too? Thanks for bringing up the ice.
@Sunshine1810: ICE! Ice definitely helps to numb you a bit so you don't feel as much. I actually stopped icing towards the last few days cause I honestly didn't feel the need because I just got used to it. But I would definitely do that at least at first or throughout because it will help.
pear / 1556 posts
@Jenn23: Sounds good, I think I will start off with ice and see how I do.
Did either of you do acupuncture with your IVF cycle? Do you feel it helped? Thanks!
GOLD / coconut / 8266 posts
@Sunshine1810: I've never done acupuncture. I was thinking about trying it but never got around to it.
@Jenn23: yes, we are going to transfer two this time also. We would be ok with twins for a total of three kids...that's our limit though! When are you starting your cycle?

@swedishfish: @Sunshine1810: @Jenn23: I'm really excited and keeping my fingers crossed for you guys!
@Sunshine1810: I definitely agree with the icing before shots tip! I had my belly so numb before my first shot that I didn't even realize DH had stuck me since I had my eyes closed! I thought he was torturing me by dragging it out, and then he told me he was done! I laughed at how easy it was! Also, if you have any meds that need to be refrigerated, it helps to let them sit out for 20 minutes or so before hand. Your dates are coming up so soon! That's awesome!

@Sunshine1810: so exciting! Good luck! I didn't do acupuncture during my ivf cycle. I don't think it would hurt tho!
I didn't need to ice up before shots. But I had to always massage the area after injecting progesterone in oil.

@thisisme: Thank you for the tips and the support!!
@tequiero21: Thanks! I am definitely thinking about it. I've gone to acupuncture in the past, and it definitely helps with my nerves, but at this point I have so many appointments and life is quite busy right now that it just feels like one more thing to squeeze in! I just wanted to see what everyone's feedback was on whether they thought it was a must do or not.
I just got my list of appointments emailed to me this morning from my doctor's office....11!!!! Not that it wasn't real before, but it is even more real now! Thankfully they were able to schedule ultrasounds and blood work at 7am so I can go before work!

@Sunshine1810: I did acupuncture for my IVF cycle! I have no idea if it helped or not, but it definitely didn't harm the cycle because I did have success! Plus I felt relaxed with the acupuncture. I did it weekly (community acupuncture which is like a mini-version) for a few months leading up to IVF and then did a private one-hour fertility session the day before transfer and the day after. I do recommend it because I have heard so many say it did work for them. Even if it is just a mental thing, can't hurt!

Well I just got my blood test results back from my day 3 blood work. They were all fine except my Thyroid... I am going to start taking Synthroid today and I need to take it at least through my treatment.
I am trying not to be bummed out but it just feels like one more thing at this point. Ugh.
grapefruit / 4703 posts
@Sunshine1810: suuuuuper common, don't worry! I've been on synthroid for a year and a half now, and my endocrinologist said it's one of the most commonly prescribed medications. It may make you feel better - a slow thyroid can make you hold onto weight, feel tired, cold, etc. What was your TSH level?
pear / 1556 posts
@Shutterbug: I am being a baby and I know it. It's technically "normal" but on the high end so she wants me on Synthroid at least during IVF. My level was 3.45 I do have a very hard time losing weight but I always attributed it to PCOS. Thanks for helping me feel better.
grapefruit / 4703 posts
@Sunshine1810: mine was 3.8 when first tested. It quickly went down to 2 within a couple months (and 1 dosage change - I take 50mcg now). Good luck with your IVF! I'll probably be starting back up again with IVF this summer.
pear / 1556 posts
@Shutterbug: That's good to hear! I am not sure what my dose is going to be. My RE wrote me an email and said that her nurse would call in my prescription. She said she will check it again in 6-8 weeks to make sure it's working.
Thank you! Best of luck to you too!!!

@Sunshine1810: My thyroid was the only thing flagged on my bloodwork, too! My TSH was 3.5 and they retested it at 3.9 before putting my on Synthroid (Levothyroxin). The IVF coordinator explained to me that anything below 4 is actually considered normal, but below 2 (or 2.5? I can't remember.) is ideal for conception and pregnancy. I take 25 mcg of Levothyroxin each morning (it's most effective on an empty stomach), and now my TSH is at 1.7. My OB wants me to continue it through my pregnancy. When I started taking it, I did notice an increase in appetite without putting on any extra weight, even as I'm almost through my first trimester. Like you, I always had a hard time losing weight. My mom also has hypothyroidism, so I wasn't too surprised that I needed to be on thyroid meds.
@Shutterbug: That's great! Are you at a new clinic now? I hope you're getting some of the answers you've been looking for!
pear / 1556 posts
@thisisme: Thanks for telling me about your experience! Very reassuring! Both of my parents have hypothyroidism so I'm not that surprised either, it was more overwhelming. I hope you have a H&H rest of your pregnancy! Congrats!

Alright so I made the decision to do acupuncture. I am not going to community acupuncture this time like I used to, I am going to a fertility acupuncture specialist. I am a little nervous, but excited too! I have been stressed out since yesterday, so hopefully tonight will help me relax a bit!
Hope everyone is doing well!

@Sunshine1810: Good luck with the acupuncture! I got a BFP on the IVF cycle I did acupuncture, and even though I miscarried that pregnancy, I'm definitely on board for trying it again soon, as it could've been the thing that helped me get a positive result.

@momazon: Thanks for sharing your experience! I am so sorry about your miscarriage!
My appointment went really well last night. It was a lot more detailed than my community acupuncture appointments. We talked for over 45 minutes before even starting. I felt very relaxed afterwards, so if nothing else it is helping with my stress!
Just a disclaimer: I LOVE community acupuncture and will probably still go there after this for my stress levels (especially given the price of the fertility acupuncturist!).

@Sunshine1810: So glad you liked the fertility acupuncture. So where are you in the IVF cycle now? We just finalized the dates for everything. My husband is away this week for work and the last week of May so we have to wait until then to start. I will start BCP during my next period late May for 21 days, then start injections later in June. So retrieval/transfer should be late June/July. I'm so excited! Hope everything is going well with your cycle!!

@Jenn23: So excited for you!!! I am still on BCP right now. I have been on it since 04/26. I have an appointment with RE on 05/12 for the mock transfer and to sign the consents. On 05/14 I go in to learn how to do the injections and should start them on 05/16.
If all goes as planned and I get my thyroid under control (I'll be checked again in a few more weeks), retrieval and transfer should be the week of June 9th.
