@tequiero21: Hi--It had nothing to do with transferring two. I just meant that having lived through one high risk pregnancy, I don't think I could deal with a twin pregnancy since they carry more risks. Although twins generally have good outcomes, they are more likely than singles to not. As for the complication, I basically had a blood test that showed the placenta was malfunctioning. The levels were so off that there was a very good chance of stillbirth/extreme prematurity because of IUGR. He came out slightly IUGR at 37 weeks, and I had liver disease due to the placental problems. Not a bad outcome given the risks we faced, but I never want to live with that worry again. I know I can't eliminate risk, but I can try to minimize it.

Darn lab shut downs! Grrr! My IVF lab will be shut down end of June which is when my retrieval/transfer would be, so I was just notified I have to wait another month. I know a month isn't all that long, but I was so psyched and ready to get started in a few weeks, now I have to wait. Rooting for all of you other IVF'ers right now!!

@Jenn23: ugh so annoying!! Depending on how my consult with the new RE goes next week I might be joining you in July

  6. Jenn23

    persimmon / 1085 posts

@Shutterbug: Awesome! What do you mean by that, though? What would determine whether you are doing IVF late July? Can you tell me your story? I'm sorry, I have trouble keeping track and remembering so many details on here. Have you done IVF before already?

  7. Shutterbug

    grapefruit / 4703 posts

@Jenn23: No worries It's hard to keep up with everyone's history. Just timing, I guess, and whether they want to do any extra testing. I did 2 fresh cycles of IVF (in January and March of this year) with a different clinic. I took a break because I had a vacation planned in May (just got back) and I decided to try out another clinic. My first consult with them is next Friday, and I'll be in the middle of a cycle, so if they want to redo CD3 testing or HSG or anything like that, it'd have to be next cycle. That would mean if I did Lupron (no BCP) like I did the second time then the earliest I could start stims would be in two cycles (roughly early July). If they want to do antagonist with BCP then I'd be looking more at late July/August to start stims.

@Shutterbug: So no luck with the first two cycles, and no embryos to freeze? What is your diagnosis? So sorry the first two didn't work for you. So I hope you like the new RE. Perhaps a different protocol is what he/she will advise? I wish you all the best!!!

  9. Shutterbug

    grapefruit / 4703 posts

@Jenn23: yeah, no luck and nothing to freeze - and we had 35 eggs in total (16 and then 19) and several embryos made it to day 5 each time. That's the thing that has me really wanting to get another opinion... how can everything look so good on paper and then not work twice? My diagnosis is unexplained, but DH has low morphology (3% strict) but with excellent count/motility, etc. I also got my period at 7dp5dt both times, two days before my beta, which they brushed off, but I feel like it's probably an issue, or maybe a sign of luteal phase defect or something. The new clinic has a much lower % of "unexplained factor" patients in their SART data (meaning more of their patients have a diagnosis) and a higher SART score for my age group, so I'm hoping they'll work harder to get to the bottom of our issues instead of just going with standard protocol/process.

@Shutterbug: Good luck with your appointment!!

    persimmon / 1085 posts

@Shutterbug: Wow, you sure did have lots of eggs! So your old RE couldn't venture a guess as to why the eggs made it so far, but none made it to freeze? Is your cycle short every month? I'm glad you are seeing a new RE that offers more people help as far as giving them a diagnosis. I really think this new doctor will be able to help you, possibly give you a new protocol and you will be successful!!!

@Sunshine1810: Thanks! Looks like I will now be quite a bit behind you with IVF. So excited for you and will cheer for you along the way. How did the injections class go?!

  13. Shutterbug

    grapefruit / 4703 posts

@Jenn23: thank you! The old RE didn't really have much to say about it, other than that everything looked good and sometimes it just doesn't work. I've always had a short LP, although on Endometrin for my IUIs it was 15 days (I was on Crinone for my IVFs). I'm hopeful that the new guy will be better

@Jenn23: Not too far behind though!! Thanks for cheering me on, you're the best! I'll be here to help you pass the time!! Injections class was good. It was a little overwhelming, but then I realized that Freedom Pharmacy has videos on each injection which is great as a backup in case I forget something! I start Lupron tomorrow morning and on 05/31 I start the Gonal-F and Menopur. I think I need to just take a deep breath and not over think it too much! Easier said than done

@Shutterbug: I agree that it sounds like you need to see a new RE. It would really bother me if my RE didn't have a lot to say about why my cycles failed. I know you don't always know all of the answers, but it sounds like he could have put a little more effort into figuring out why. I really hope this new one works out for you!

@Sunshine1810: I know, I still remember our injections class like it was yesterday. I was totally freaked out (see my post about it to Mrs. Bird in the weekly thread). I hated needles! Watching my husband poke an orange with one made me want to run out the room. LOL But I did just fine. We both just got used to it and you will, too. Yes! I forgot about those videos. We watched a bunch on YouTube, too. They will help if need be. Good luck with the Lupron. That one you want to take out of the fridge to warm it up a bit so it doesn't sting. It's a tiny needle...no biggie!

@Shutterbug: I just know the new RE will be better! So excited for you! I have a few friends that didn't have success at first with IVF, but after switching doc's/meds they got pregnant! You will, too!!!

@Shutterbug: I agree w @Sunshine1810. It would piss me off if they didn't try to get to the root of the problem. Lots of eggs, making it to day five, yet none took and none to freeze?! They should have looked into it after the first failed, but definitely by the second. Good luck at the new re!!!

@Jenn23: What a bummer! Do you have any fun early summer plans to occupy your time while you wait?

@Sunshine1810: @Jenn23: We didn't get to/have to do an injections class. My doctor just handed us a paper with Freedom's website on it. I'm glad I didn't have to sit through a class, but it did add to the stress the first couple nights we did injections.

@Shutterbug: Still cheering for you! I hope your recent vacation has you feeling rejuvenated!

  20. Jenn23

    persimmon / 1085 posts

@thisisme: Thanks! Nope, no fun summer plans. Actually, we usually go the shore for a week, but since we need so much money for IVF, I told my husband let's not go this year. We'll do lots of fun day trips to the beach, though. Our injections class was with a really funny IVF nurse. She made us more relaxed by cracking jokes and it really helped, especially when I saw the huge PIO needle come out for her to demonstrate!!!

I had blood work and sono done this morning. My uterine lining is 9.1 and I guess my blood work came back good. They switched my transfer day from next Friday to next Thursday. PIO injections begin tomorrow.

@Jenn23: Where do you go to the shore? In my family, that's a Jersey term! It totally sucks feeling like we shouldn't do things to save up for IF treatments. I hate those PIO needles!

@Shutterbug: haha, no! I'm starting to have heart palpitations.

I also have to begin the arsenal of pills...I should make an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of what to take and when.

    @thisisme: thanks!

@Sunshine1810: How's it going so far? Injections going OK?

@swedishfish: A few more days for you!!! Yay! Are you ready?

  27. Sunshine1810

    pear / 1556 posts

@Jenn23: Pretty good so far! Injections are fine. Just the Lupron right now, and I haven't had any problems. Much easier than I thought. Thanks for checking in How are you doing?

  28. Jenn23

    persimmon / 1085 posts

@Sunshine1810: Good to hear! When do you go for your first ultrasound to check on the eggs? Yep, the Lupron is tiny, which is great! I'm doing OK. Just anxiously waiting to get started but have a long while to wait so trying not to think about it too much.

Edit: I just realized I asked about your first ultrasound but you are still just on Lupron. Never mind! So when do you start the stims?

  29. Sunshine1810

    pear / 1556 posts

@Jenn23: I know, I wish you didn't have so long to wait! I have blood work on 05/31 and I am supposed to start stims on 05/31.

  30. Jenn23

    persimmon / 1085 posts

@Sunshine1810: Oh wow, so you are on the Lupron awhile! You know, I didn't ask how long I'll be on the Lupron. I didn't think it was that long, but perhaps I will be, too. If that is the case, then my retrieval won't be until August I guess. Are you having any side effects? I hope not!!

  31. Shutterbug

    grapefruit / 4703 posts

@Jenn23: for me, I was on Lupron from once they confirmed O (around 5dpo) to when I got my period (at 15dpo) and then I started stims on CD 4. I wasn't on BCP beforehand.

  32. Jenn23

    persimmon / 1085 posts

@Shutterbug: I'll be on bcp for about three weeks. So I wonder when I'll start the Lupron? So you were on it two weeks, too. We don't go back to the RE until next month once I'm ready to start bcp, so I guess I'll just wait to find out then. I'm not used to these long IVF protocols. I had two before (first one cancelled a few days in) and my second one we didn't use BCP or Lupron, so it was just about 11 days of stims and then retrieval. So quick!

  33. Sunshine1810

    pear / 1556 posts

@Jenn23: I am. I don't have anything to compare it to though so I didn't realize I was on it for longer than usual. I also will be on it when I start stims (but will start decreasing the dose). I took my last BCP last night. I haven't had any of the "traditional" side effects but I have been ridiculously exhausted. I wasn't sure if that was related, but I did google it and apparently some people have that happen. I feel a little better today. I would rather deal with being sleepy than the other ones though!

  34. Sunshine1810

    pear / 1556 posts

@Jenn23: I started BCP on 04/26, started Lupron on 05/16 and took my last BCP on 05/18, just for reference.

  35. Jenn23

    persimmon / 1085 posts

@Sunshine1810: Sorry you are so tired. Darn hormones! I'm glad you don't have any of the other effects, though. Glad you are a little better today. Maybe (hopefully!!) your body adjusts to the Lupron and that exhaustion goes away!

  36. Sunshine1810
