January POAS

    7 DPO here and I haven't tested! May sound normal, but I've tested even sooner on other cycles. Once I start I know it will turn into twice a day madness. Holding off as long as possible.

    @Mrs. K: I had heard but didn't know if it worked. I'll give it a go
    @knittylady: Good luck holding off

    @knittylady: I'd feel the same! Good luck holding off on POAS!

    @knittylady: it's so hard not to pee on all the things when they are sitting right there in the bathroom! I bought some Wondfos for this cycle so that I wasn't throwing all my money out the window with early testing

    @Synchronicity: wondfos are life!

    They're starting to call to me....

    @Synchronicity: @knittylady: you guys are hilarious! I checked this morning to see if I have any tests left and I have 1 from the dollar store. Not sure if I'll use it or not... not sure if I'll give in and buy a box of frer on Amazon this week or just wait until af shows up... I'm not sure if I want to know because this could be the death of me but where do people buy wondfos?

  9. Synchronicity

    grapefruit / 4089 posts

    @Mrs. K: Amazon!! I got a combo of OPK and HCG tests

    @Mrs. K: I get mine from Amazon!

    @Synchronicity: @knittylady: LOL! That was a good laugh!

    @Mrs. K: I got my Wondfos off of Amazon. I'm down to 1 HPT and like a bazillion OPKs so at least I've got sticks to pee on. Eventually, I'll move on to twigs in the yard....

    @knittylady: I am literally not gonna buy any tests until... to be determined. I have no self control!

    Used an opk yesterday evening for the first time and there was a faint line. I'm CD 9 today. Do you ladies try to take them at the same time each day? And twice a day when the lines get darker?

  16. Mrs. Oreo

    pear / 1677 posts

    @jhd: i usually use my OPK when I get home from work - between 530-6pm, so it's the same every day. When it gets darker, I do 6am and 6pm.

  17. knittylady

    pomegranate / 3212 posts

    @jhd: I aim for the same time, but I'm a SAHM and never know when I can next use the bathroom. And yes, twice a day spaced out by 4-5 or more hours after the line is getting nice and dark.

    @jhd: The only thing that I found didn't work as great with OPKs was FMU, because it's more concentrated, so the tests tend to look closer to positive than they would in the afternoon or with SMU, making it harder to distinguish a true positive. My first box wasn't as sensitive and FMU worked fine - a true positive was clearly different than the other days even with FMU. The second box (same brand) appeared to be a much more sensitive batch and FMU didn't work as great because it would always look sort of close to positive.

    So in an effort to be spontaneous and do something we couldnt do with kiddos my husband and I booked a overnight train vacation to Savannah and back for the 3 day weekend. While I'm sad about not being pregnant it's nice to do this and remember to enjoy our life now.

    @snarkybiochemist: sounds like a wonderful vacation! Every time I get AF, I get sad about it too but also try to remember to cherish just me and him until we have a baby. I hope you have a fantastic time!

    @madisonbee: @Eko: it's definitely consoling me after a bfn. It is nice to connect with my husband in a way that isn't obsessed with making a baby.

    @snarkybiochemist: it's so important to connect with DH that way, and I feel bad when I forget about it because baby is on my mind all the time. We have the next 4 days off together and it's been nice to spend REAL time together and enjoy DTD without wondering if we "did it right."

    I just looked at my Amazon purchase history and I've bought a pack of 3 FRER 6 times now If I buy a pack now I'll have them on Wednesday which will be 11 dpo... perfect timing one might say?!

    @Mrs. K: Perfect!

  29. snarkybiochemist

    nectarine / 2180 posts

    @Mrs. K: @madisonbee: we typically do a longer vacation in January which didn't work out this year so it's nice to get away and between being on a train and my period coming we can connect without sex being a driving part.

    So this would be considered negative for an O test, right? My RE wants me to test every morning then come in for blood work when I get a positive. Instructions say test line should be darker than control, and this is just a bit lighter. So maybe I'll get a positive tomorrow?

  31. knittylady

    pomegranate / 3212 posts

    @bizwitch: Not quite positive. I always went by if it's as dark or darker.

  32. Synchronicity

    grapefruit / 4089 posts

    @bizwitch: mine looked similar this morning (first time using one) and I am not expecting to O for 7 or 8 more days. I didn't expect it to be so dark already but it's definitely not positive.

  33. periwinklebee

    grapefruit / 4466 posts

    @bizwitch: It looks pretty close. I would guess it might be positive this afternoon or tomorrow, but I think it depends on how sensitive your batch of tests is and whether this was FMU or not. It will be easier to tell (or was for me at least) if you use SMU.

  34. dominobee

    pear / 1553 posts

    @periwinklebee: yes it was FMU. When you wrote SMU, is that a typo or another acronym I don't know?!

  35. dominobee

    pear / 1553 posts

    PS Thanks ladies... I would be so lost without you! LOL!

  36. Mrs. Oreo

    @bizwitch: SMU = second morning urine

  37. dominobee

    pear / 1553 posts

    @madisonbee @periwinklebee: Why is it easier to tell with SMU?

  38. knittylady

    pomegranate / 3212 posts

    @bizwitch: For LH you don't want super concentrated urine. I can't remember the science behind it... I guess it builds up so the reading isn't actually representative of LH at that moment?

  39. Synchronicity

    grapefruit / 4089 posts

    @knittylady: I had no idea! I used FMU. Good to know!

  40. Mrs. Oreo

    pear / 1677 posts

    Yeah, for me my OPK seemed more accurate or readable with my 5-6pm urine. I believe LH is synthesized in the morning, so the actual amount in your system builds up by the afternoon/evening.
