My 6.5 mo just started loving her jolly jumper - my fault, I had it sitting too low for her originally. She will stay in there for an hour if I let her. I did a bit of research and some say that it can be bad for their spines, tailbones? Anyone heard of this before? How long did you let your LO play in one?

I don't... I was told max 15 minutes a day in jumpers/excesausers etc. knowing that I didn't bother buying any. If I were to put myself into the positions/postures they put babies into it would really hurt my back. But I'm certainly in the minority on this one.

Our chiropractor and pediatrician recommend against them. We were given one and I'll let her play in it while I shower, so no more than 10-15 minutes a couple of times a week. A lot of OTs also suggest skipping them for the reasons you mentioned and hip dysplasia.

I have heard of this from OTs, with regards to posture and other vague and ominous matters.
My own ped said as long as they aren't in it all day, don't worry. We don't have any baby-storage devices, but I've been debating looking for one... girlfriend loves her a jumperoo at friends' houses...

We used our Jolly jumper for no more than fifteen minutes at a time and always made sure she could put her feet flat on the floor.
My understanding is that the issues come about when Jolly Jumpers, exersaucers etc, are used for prolonged periods of time and providing LO's are being held / placed in avariety of positions then it shouldn't be a problem.

We used ours lots, and lots. Bad parenting 101 according to here I'm sure, but LO loved it, and we had a lot of fun with her while she was in it!

We use ours all the time. We have an exersaucer and a jumper. I like them for promoting independent play.
He has well baby checks every few months and the dr has never said anything is wrong with him. Dh is a pta and isn't concerned either.

We use ours 1-2x/day for about 10 minutes each time, sometimes less.
My understanding is that issues can arise if children are left in them for an especially long time on a regular basis. Furthermore, I've also read that these things don't CAUSE hip problems, but can exacerbate pre-existing conditions.

My sister is an ot and said not to use any of those holders for more than twenty minutes a day, for the hip and spine issues mentioned above.

My LO loves the Jolly Jumper. I would only let her play in it 15 mins at a time, 20 mins max if she's having too much fun. and never more than twice a day. She started playing with it at 4 months, when we were sure she had full head control. We "weaned" her off of it when she was 9.5 months lol. Anyways, from the time she jumped, she gained a lot of muscles on her legs! She's turning 1 in a few days, and she's crawling and standing assisted just fine. I know there's a lot of talk about issues on certain toys, like walkers etc...IMO, as long as you watch them carefully and play in moderate, is fine. I always kept my eyes on her while she is jolly jumping :). She had more fun when we conversed with her while she jumped.

Thanks for all the responses ladies. She loves loves loves to have dance parties in it when I put music on for her, so I'm really hesitant to give it up; I think I'll just make sure to limit her time from now on.

@NurseMommy: I def wouldn't give it up! If anything just use more sparingly than you might otherwise. But fun (and your ability to get a few things done around the house) is soooo freaking important!!

We put LO in it, too, and wasn't concerned. Sure, if you leave your kid in it hours and hours a day, it's not ideal. Ours used it a lot for a couple months and once she started to crawl, wasn't so interested. So it had a pretty short shelf life in our house
I'm not of the belief that we can avoid everything bad under the sun. It's unrealistic. So as long as it's not overdone, don't lose sleep over it
