That was one of my biggest pet peeves. You know what I say (and because I'm a B like this), if you have a girl, name her what you planned on naming and tell you friend, "I know you're not a fan of her name but we love it and we've named her after DH's mother who we love dearly." And if you feel like it, add "you biatch!" to the end of that sentence.

Just kidding.

i do agree with you. We shared our DD's name, Audrey, with Dh's family and they asked why dont I name her Aubree. they said this every time they saw me, they even started to call her Aubree when she was in my tummy. It made me really upset and DH finally told him her name is Audrey so deal with it.

I don't get why people have such strong opinions about baby names. Why do they care so much, especially when it isn't their kid. I do have to say that there is one name that a friend of ours gave their daughter that I am not a fan of, not because it is a bad name, but coupled with their last name I think is kind of mean. That is probably the only time I have spoken ill towards a name choice.

Naming a child is such a personal decision and it's hard enough for the two parents to decide on a name that I agree it's just cruel and rude for anyone to make comments about the name other than "Oh how lovely". Of course it won't be what YOU would have picked out, so get over it!

I guess this is the problem with not sharing the names you pick out? Hopefully, if you had told her already, oh we are thinking of xyz, she would have just said, oh that's nice, and left it there (giving her the benefit of the doubt here).

I know one time I was talking about my brother's baby names and I mentioned I like the pretty girls name he had picked out, when my pregnant friend, who was keeping her names a secret, admitted that was one of their top choices. Luckily I was saying I liked it, not the other way around, but I had NO idea that she was thinking of it and would have felt like a big arse if I said something negative about it.

Names are so personal. I still think you'll get fewer comments not sharing the names than you would if you shared them, so there's that

We were keeping our twins names secret except for one of my aunts who makes cross stitched name plaques for each kid asked to know in advanced so she could get it ready. I made the mistake of telling her and she told everyone at my baby shower. Then my sister said that one of the names was stupid. I just looked at her and told her to mind her own business and I can name my son whatever I want. :). Gotta love sisters.

My mum has made no bones about hating one of our girls names (she says its too "formal". Huh??) and my BFF said my favourite girls name is trashy. Sigh. Stuff 'em, I say! The name will take on a new sound and a new meaning when your LO has it and your friend will grow to love it (not that you care if she does, Im sure!) - enjoy making her squirm if you have a girl!!!

I don't know if I would be upset by that. It's not like she knew that you were planning to use the name. She was just expressing her opinion which I personally think is fine.

When my BIL & SIL were pregnant, they were team green. My SIL and I were discussing names and she shared her short list. One of the names on it was similar to a name that I said that I didn't like (previously). They ended up naming our niece basically the same name, just starting with a different letter. I still don't like it and I'm pretty sure they know that but it really doesn't matter. I don't have to like the name and they don't care if I do. I definitely didn't feel at all like an asshole when she was born and they announced the name. Everyone has different tastes. As long as the parents like it, that's really all that matters.

awkward... Just do what you want anyways. She's going to feel so bad. I did that to a friend. I told her DH liked Addison for a girl, but I didn't want to name my baby a name off of a TV show. Well, of course that was her name. I felt like such an A$$.
