I just slipped and fell down some stairs while I was holding M. She was on top of me the whole time so she was fine but very startled. It was at the top of a tall flight of outdoor stairs and we didn't go very far but it could have been so much worse. She was absolutely screaming and I was sobbing. We're both totally fine but I'm still feeling so guilty and shaken up. I just feel like my arms should be the absolute safest place she can be and obviously they weren't

Your arms were the safest place because she wasn't hurt! You took the brunt of the fall and kept her safe. Way to go! I hope you are okay?? It sounds like a nasty fall.

Thanks so much girls! Obviously these things happen but I love that I can turn to HB for some virtual hugs when I'm feeling like a bad mom. I'm fine, but I'm going to have one seriously bruised butt tomorrow. I was just so shaken up by the idea that I could have hurt M.

Awww.... that kind of thing happens! My MIL fell while holding my BIL and threw him into a bush. She thought it would be a softer landing then concrete. He was fine

Oh mama :(I'm this exact thing happened to me. I twisted my knee bad enough trying to protect J (he was about 3mo old) that I had to go to a specialist and have it checked out. The most important thing for us mamas is that the babes are okay, and I'm so happy for you that you're both safe and sound!

I'm sorry. Glad you're both okay. This happened to my husband a few years ago. LO actually flew out of his arms and landed on pavement. He cried for a while, had a scrape on the side of his face and was completely okay an hour later.

I fell down an entire flight of stairs holding my nephew when he was little .... On Easter Sunday in a crowded fancy restaurant!!! As I lay at the bottom with one leg bent underneath me my nephew says "E fall down!" And my sister screams "what did you DO?" from across the room. Oy

My MIL took a bad spill with my little guy a few months ago, so scary! I was shaking forever after that one, she felt terrible about it, but props to her for keeping him safe.
Recently C dove off the arm of the couch and hit his head and ended up fine but with a big ugly bruise. I was telling the pediatrician about that today at our 18 month appointment, she said something that cracked me up, "It's when they don't have scratches, bumps, and bruises that we worry that you are locking them in a closet."

So sorry! This happened to me a few months ago. LO was fine, but I had bruises for weeks, not to mention guilt. Babies are so resilient, though. Glad you're okay!

@MrsF: Sorry this happened. Just feel better knowing that it does happen to other parents too. Dh fell holding LO when she was 7 months. Luckily she was fine too

Amazing how many moms have had injuries from falling while keeping their kids scratch-free - so glad that instinct is there when we need it!

@MrsF: yes, that's why we love her, she has twins, so she has tons of stories about her own misadventures! She's very real and approachable
