I've recently read a couple articles that talk about the importance of allowing infants/young toddlers to be barefoot.
The first article talks about how it's important for foot/body development. Here's the link:

And a quote:
"Many of the ailments we suffer from, musculoskeletally speaking, are a result of our dependence on footwear and the strain on the ligaments and plantar fascia from decades of muscle atrophy. If you can start a kid off with a preference to minimal footwear, it saves time and degeneration later on."
She encourages going barefoot when possible, and putting LOs in flexible-soled shoes (like Robeez) when they need something on their feet (like when it's cold).
The second article I came across talks about the importance of allowing LOs to be specifically barefoot, as it helps develop sensory systems in the brain.

A quote:
"When allowed to be barefoot, tactile pathways feel the surface of the ground, proprioceptors respond to pressure, and the terrain creates slight imbalances that create neuromuscular strength, spacial orientation, balance and coordination."
After reading these, I've made the decision to avoid structured footwear for my little one for as long as possible.
Did you know about this? What decisions have you made re: footwear for your babies?
Even when we go to library story hour or music class, I take our shoes off when we get there.
