The time is upon us it felt like it happened too soon!
When does enrollment begin for kindergarten where you live? Is it a long process for you? I was surprised at how many hours I spent gathering things and filling out paperwork!

Wahhh! I think our kinder applications are in March. So, next time this year I'll be doing what you're doing. Excited for the daycare savings but sad for her growing up so fast!

@Boogs: wahhhhhhh M starts this fall too!
She's going to private school, so I've been working on apps. Just need to get through on campus testing (for 2 schools) and we'll be done!
Hard to believe we're gonna have kindergarteners!

DD1 started kinder in the fall! She goes to a private school so there wasn't a lot of paperwork. I did get the app for public school, just in case, and that looked like a lot more work since you have to show proof of address.

@Andrea: They want an insane amount of paperwork to prove our address.

I just did ours last week. We had to preregister online, then print out a bunch of papers to sign, add documents like birth certificate, proof of nationality, foreign language assessments, etc. I assume we will be accepted since we fit all of the priority categories, but we won't find out for a few weeks.

I registered for a local charter school in October and they held the lottery in early November. I had to register for my local school in early December. At that time I had to apply for my school of choice (like a magnet school) and any form 10 (in district but not my local school) that I want. Because my local school has bad test scores, I am guaranteed a different school.
So they have tours at every school. Now the hard part comes, I have to choose the school. He got into the charter school and a school of choice. Our biggest issue is after school care. The charter is further away and has only their after school care which is full. The school of choice has after school care which is full but is across from a daycare that does after school care. The charter is k-8, and the school of choice has an option of k-8 but is currently only k-5.
Yeah it's worse than choosing a college.

Ours opened in October of last year
We had to bring her birth certificate, proof of residency, and some generic paperwork.
Before August 1st we have to submit a physical from her doctor and dentist

@Boogs: We just picked up the registration package yesterday...I'm not ready! She just turned 3 in December

@Boogs: Ours just requires 2 pieces of mail to prove our address. So like a mortgage statement and a utilities statement.
She starts in the fall as well. I need to figure out when they do a tour.

@brownie: Ugh I'm not looking forward to this. We also put her in a lottery for a charter school and will hear sometime in March. We luckily have a really great zoned school but if she gets in to the charter will need to decide if its worth it to drive her all the way over there.

Wow, you guys have crazy processes to go through! I looked up our district's kindergarten information although we won't need it for another year. The registration form is one page which is mostly demographic information, we would need one proof of address (driver's license), immunization record, and birth certificate. Then we go to a roundup night at our zoned elementary and fill out bus transportation information, and presumably get a tour, etc.
We may look into private schools too but are leaning towards public. Will definitely not do a charter school.

@Finfan: I think once you actually are assigned to the school and go to register is when you get a bunch of paperwork. Things like emergency contact, allergies, waivers for PE, waivers for using computers etc.

@T.H.O.U.: I just did the tour today. I still want to tour some of the other schools we can try to get into that are a bit better, but the ratios are so much better at our school. And can't beat walking vs driving. So many decisions.

I can't wait! I'm so excited LO gets to come to my school where I teach. Her teachers will have been my work friends for years. The only bummer is now I'll have to get her ready in the morning, as opposed to DH and me skipping off to work. I bought most of her school supplies like in September on sale and found a few more super cheap things a few weeks ago. I'm not sad! But then again, I was happy for her to start preschool too. I love her being little and I miss her tiny baby-ness but I'm looking forward to more adventures.
I have to do the mortgage paper/utilities and medical stuff. Then I have to fill out a geographic exception since we live outside the district.
