I'd do Friendly's because I'm frugal. But to be honest I'd love any type of ice cream cake so might as well be the cheaper version!

I voted local shop - the last Friendly's ice cream cake we got was not good at all, so much so that we threw half of it away (and when have you ever in your life thrown away an ice cream cake!).

It might have been just a stale / few days old cake so maybe if they make yours fresh it will be better, but I bet the local shop would be awesome no matter what.

Friendly's is fine! It will be delicious still!

Actually I just remembered I have a great recipe to make your own ice cream cake, we make it all the time in the summer. It just requires 2 pints of ice cream, cool whip and some kind of chocolate for the middle layer to make a 9 inch cake. Let me know and I'll dig it up for you. That would be even cheaper and you could do strawberry.

@locavore_mama: you can always buy 1/2 gallon of strawberry ice cream as well - still way cheaper than the local bake shop!

@locavore_mama: My grandma makes ice cream pies. Makes a pie crust, pours ice cream in the pan (set it out for a while), and then pours hot chocolate on the top. You could make a couple and have a variety of flavors.

@locavore_mama - not sure how many people you need to feed..but you could always just make two! And I just remembered I actually make it in a chocolate graham crust that you buy at the store, so its even easier / there is no clean up involved
