As some of you may know, DD has severe allergies and as a result I have been an anxious mess about her returning to daycare at the end of the summer (aka THIS MONDAY!) because she will be in the toddler room where they all eat at the same table.
I have talked extensively with the teachers in the room and the plan was to make sure that there was always a teacher at the table she sits at to monitor her and the other kids--if R drinks from a sippy of WCM it will result in anaphylaxis...if she eats anything with eggs she'll vomit until her stomach is emptied.
While this sounds great, it is a room with 16 kids and three teachers; when I visited there were bits of food on the floor and all I could think is she would eat them (because ya know, she puts everything in her mouth!). But we had no other options so I had to trust they would monitor her.
Well, two days ago I was talking to my neighbor who I thought always had her kids at the same daycare mentioned above....come to find out, she used an in home daycare until they were 3. Her son also has allergies so I was anxious to learn more. I went there last night and felt really confident that R would not have a reaction there but now I have today to decide where R goes on Monday.
Ok daycare pros
-close by
-structure/education
-cameras/ piece of mind
Cons
-big fear of allergic reaction!!!!
in home pros
-confident about R's special needs with food
-$50 cheaper a week
-two neighbors (with cop husbands--hello background checks!) have sent their kids there for over span of 8 yrs
-all kids (6 max) under the age of 3
cons
-out of way for DH who will do drop off
-not as structured
-not licensed (most aren't in FL because you can't be in a subdivision)
-hard to trust simply because it's one person rather than a center that I have access to cameras (I did feel very comfortable with her in general but hate I won't have time to meet her more since I need to decide so soon)
Ok...sorry if that's a mess of info, I'm typing with one hand (R has roseola and is attached at my hip!) . Please share opinions!
