I don't think I'd go. It sounds like the realize it may not be feasible for you to attend.

I would just talk and be honest to say that if you have a choice you prefer not to go yet but if they need you there you can try to see what you can do.

I wouldn't go. Not just because of that but because of the past minute. Even if I was single I have other things in my life I can't rearrange on a dime.

@mamabolt: did you discuss anything with your boss when you came back from maternity leave about travel? I told my boss I couldn't work for a year after I came back - essentially giving myself enough time to stop pumping at work before going back to traveling (if needed). Honestly, I am trying to mommy-track my life at this current job because I don't need to travel to move up so, I may eventually say no more travel.

I would discuss it with your boss when she gets back and see if you can come to an agreement. Let her know what you told us if you're comfortable with that. If not, just tell her you're not comfortable traveling yet or you're not comfortable traveling last minute like this. Maybe if she wants you to go on another trip, that is planned out, you can have your husband's parents come into town while you're gone to help hear the baby?

If you can attend remotely, I'd do that, honestly. I think it's rude of them to ask you to go last minute, baby or no. If you want to go, though, you should be able to work out pumping logistics. Your husband can sleep next to the baby, and he'll likely find that he wakes up when it's his job. That was the case for my husband.

That is a tough one. I feel like even though it will be inconvenient and stressful, you should seriously consider going if you don't want your career to suffer. It's nice that they're sort of giving you the option though, a lot of jobs wouldn't. At least you have your husband and MIL to help out while you're gone, a lot of women don't have that support system!
