I think this nurse is being ridiculous. As someone who has seen the disease wreak havoc on lives, she should want to do whatever it takes to not contribute to the risk or spreading it here. I would have No issues being quarantined if there was even a slight chance I had been exposed. You better believe if I was working first hand with ebola patients I wouldn't go home for 3 weeks to potentially spread it to my family. Yes they say you can't spread it until symptomatic but who's to say that is always the case? Or that you can catch your fever with monitoring before you are contagious. I just wouldn't take an risk in spreading it.

The only thing I disagree with is the unheated room. She should be comfortable.

I think this is being handled rather ridiculously. I am all for people being quarantined but I think they should be given a choice of either being quarantined in their home, where all people in the home need to remain quarantined for the incubation time, or in a hospital setting. I would think most people would choose to avoid exposing their families to it, but they should still have a choice.

Secondly, the American media is going over the top with the scaremongering. Seriously now, it is not a disease that is easily caught until a person becomes symptomatic and with quarantine, either at home or in a hospital, with frequent monitoring, there should not be an increased risk to the general public.

Thirdly, Chris Christie is an idiot. The CDC has said she has tested negative and he's calling her obviously ill? Well, let's just keep whipping everyone up into a frenzy for no reason govenor, awesome job.

Anyway, the bottom line is that aid workers who are returning from the affected areas should absolutely be treated with the utmost respect. They are not criminals nor have they done anything wrong, unless you count putting aside their own personal fears to help those less fortunate, a crime. People need to calm down and be sensible, quit with the mass hysteria...

I think we do need to have a policy in place-- doctors and nurses should not return to work in American hospitals until it is clear that they have not contracted Ebola...but the idea of quarantining all individuals in-hospital for the requisite 21 days strikes me as both crazy and unsustainable. And, yes, it will discourage healthcare workers from volunteering during Ebola outbreaks. Probably, these doctors and nurses ought to complete their clinical duties and have at least a brief period of quarantine on the African continent. Once home, I think quarantine in their home should be adequate, since patients are not infectious to anyone (shy of providing a blood transfusion) until they develop symptoms.
