My FIL died 3 years ago and left my DH and BIL with a trust. Their grandmother is the trustee and she would like to dissolve said trust because she is tired of dealing with it.
The stipulation of the trust is that everything is divided 50/50. DH and BIL are on the same page regarding what they want done. No one is seeing any issues regarding fighting over the inheritance. Basically, they'd love to just tell grandma's lawyer "Hey, we'll split it. Don't trouble yourself".
Legally, is there a way for them to do that? The letter we got from the lawyer said that the value of the divided assets could be determined by DH and BIL, as long as they agreed. The fact is that none of us really trust this lawyer and I wanted to ask around before we go talk to him. We don't want him to screw us into dealing with a bunch of BS because he wants $$.
