I so desperately want to join the leggings bandwagon, but cannot find THE ONE! I recently purchased one from H&M after some recommendations from the hives, but they seem like glorified tights. Anyone have any cheap but quality legging recommendations. I'm talking thicker than panty hose material that is opaque and not sheer and shiny.

Not cheap, but I like the Splendid leggings. They are nice and thick.

walmart has some by danskin that i love, and they're really cheap, and really thick, i'm a huge fan

Also not cheap (unless they're having a 50% off sale like when I bought them) but Ann Taylor Loft leggings are really thick, and good quality material.

yes yes yes!! c'est moi leggings. they are one size fits all and fleece lined. super thick and amazing quality. $19.99 in canada. I love them!

I bought the yoga legging from Gilly hicks and love them! They are like a really fitted yoga pant - they are thick, but they are so comfortable and fitted. I wear them with tunics/dresses or sweatshirts.
The downside is that GH being an offbrand of Hollister, it's Jrs sizes so I'm in the M-L sizes as it is and they only go up to a large - so even if you're not technically overweight - they might not fit
However the yoga legging has a LOT of give - and I was able to size down to a M in them.

I have some from Khols that are Apt 9 brand. I got them a size up so they are a bit thicker (less stretched out) and a pair from Macy's (style and co).

I got a pair at Target that are almost the same material as running pants. They were in the clothing section though, not by the socks. I love them!

@Shutterbug: I got Ann Taylor Loft leggings during the 50% sale too, on a recommendation from another thread here! I am wearing them now and they are AMAZING. I would pay full price for them. They are like the ones @Mrs. Pen described - a very fitted yoga pant. I also got XL when I could have gone with an L, and they are so comfy today I want to cry.

H&M ones are not good!! The ones I wore pre-preg are from American Apparel. They are definitely leggings, not tights.

Lands End. They are definitely not tights, and a little more forgiving than most.

Walmart leggings I think were $5, Targets were $8, and both are thick and so so comfy.

Bed Bath and Beyond (random, I know) had some of these Capelli fleece-lined leggings that are thick for only $10, which is half the price of Amazon. BUT, I still wouldn't wear them without something covering the butt, because they are quite fitted and not at all pants-like. But they are WARM, which is nice. I bought 1 pair, and then went back and bought 2 more.

I have two recommendations...
I have an awesome pair from Express...they were not super expensive and I love them!
Also, on the pricier side are the pixie pant from JCrew...its a little more structured than a legging so I feel its squeezes me in more where I need it. I think these are $88 but maybe there is a 30% off coupon out there somewhere!

I have several brands, and the only ones I love are from Marshall's. "Poof!" brand, which is probably some juniors line, but they are so comfy and cheap. I've worn them before I got pregnant and through my entire pregnancy, and they're the only ones that are still comfortable now at 35 weeks.

@Mrs D: I have the Express ones too, and they are definitely leggings, not tights with no feet. Nice and thick, but they are still leggings, not pants-- like I wouldn't be comfortable wearing them the way I would my tight lulu lemon capri pants.
I like the sound of the yoga pant type ones though. -

I have a pair of running tights from Target that have a little bit of gathering at the ankle and are my favorite leggings. They're a little thicker, but not super thick like fleece lined ones. I love them!

I like VS Yoga leggings, AA leggings, and most recently a couple pairs from J Crew for thicker, non-see-through leggings.
