Mine was about 1/2 the length with #2 than #1. Less than 6 hours for sure. I laboured at home for almost all of it and basically showed up at the hospital just to deliver

Baby 1: 15 hours
Baby 2: 22 hours

Baby 2 was sunny-side up and almost two weeks late. I labored at home for 17 hours and then at the hospital for 5 hours. They broke my water and she was out 15 minutes later.

@LindsayInNY: that old wives tale is pretty true for me.... my second was about half as long, AND I had to be induced! I was pretty much in early labor when I showed up for my induction though... a half a cytotec, a few laps around the hospital grounds, and I was in labor.

Dd1 was 6 hours (6.5 lbs) and DS was about 8 I think (9.7 lbs). But DS was much larger and the midwife had me labor down while waiting for the epidural to wear off a bit. Pushing was the same with both, less than 5 minutes. It will be interesting to se how it goes with #3. Hoping to stay at home as long as possible.

17 for first and 11 for second. First was an induction.

I've had 3 posterior babies. Baby #3 turned much earlier than the first two, but that is what is contributing to my longer labor times- once they turn I go pretty quickly, so despite longer labor times my doctor recommended coming in for #3 when contractions were 6 minutes apart (I was also GBS+ and live 40 minutes from the hospital). It wasn't a rush situation, but I wanted an epidural, and I really didn't want to be far along and stuck in a car, I"m glad I went in when I did.
#1: 36 hours
#2: 13 hours
#3: 9 hours

Baby #1: Labored at the hospital for 19 hours. I was 3 cm dilated when i got to the hospital. The pain seemed really bad because she was sunny side up. I pushed for 3.5 hours and finally used forceps.

Baby #2: I labored at home for 3 hours - honestly, the main reason we stayed at home for so long was so we could drop kid #1 at daycare on the way to the hospital. Labored at the hospital for 2 hours. I was 7cm dilated when i got to the hospital. I pushed for 15 minutes.

Honestly, I'm just humored by your insurance company giving you advice on when to go to the hospital....

First one was 24 hrs and the 2nd was 9 hrs. Both induced.

Ok, so stupid small thread jack question. What is the 5-1-1 and 3-1-1? I'm assuming it's contraction spacing, but I had a scheduled c-section so skipped the birth class.

First was close to 20 hours. Second was maybe 5? I held out for an epidural for 13 hours with my first, though, and didn't dilate past 1 until I got my epidural. I didn't wait so long with number 2.

First labor happened spontaneously at 41w and was 23 hours long.

Second labor (twins) was an induction at 37w and was about 11 hours long.

So glad you started this thread because I've kind of just been like - oh this will go how it went last time.... but seems not!

My labor was about 13 hours start to finish. Earliest contractions were about 6AM (dozed through them till 8:30) went to the hospital at 2PM (dilated at 4), then delivery at 7 PM. Waters didn't break until I was pushing at around 6/6:30.

We've been kind of planning for my in-laws to be able to drive up here quickly enough (given the 12 hour timeline) but I guess we need to solidify our local plans for LO if we end up needing to go in sooner than they arrive!

I was just talking about this with my OB. My son took about 10 hours after painful contractions started. He didn't say it would be half, but he did say likely less time. I think he estimated six or seven hours based on the amount of time for my first?

First labor for me was 17 hours start to finish with about 25 minutes of pushing. I was (mercifully) induced for #2, but once I was fully dilated, I only pushed twice and baby was out in under 3 minutes. OB's told me it was fortunate that I didn't go into spontaneous labor at home and if I ever had a third baby I'd need to be VERY close to the hospital.

@LindsayInNY: this is me--we moved to a suburban/commuter town in NJ in May and I was delivering at Mount Sinai on 95th and 5th. I begged for an induction because I was so freaked out about going into labor and getting stuck in traffic, plus potentially having to get my son's caregiver to our house before I left, plus what if my husband had been at his office (Columbus Circle) and I'd had to take a fucking Uber into the city, etc.

@pollywog yea I was induced with #2 basically b/c I was afraid I would have my baby on the side of the road. And since he was born an hour after my water broke... it was a realistic fear! I am so happy to be done having babies. I was so stressed at the end of pregnancy about going into labor somewhere inconvenient or without childcare.

My OB did mention that second babies tend to come in half the time (but she also said he’d be early and he was 5 days late soooo...)

Both times I was induced and was 3 cm dilated. First labor: 15 hours after the first dose of Pitocin, about 4 hours of pushing. Second labor: 11 hours and 12 min of pushing.

I think the amount of Pitocin and the fact that I was 5 days overdue and super low with #2 didn’t hurt either...

@LindsayInNY: Her original due date was Aug 19 and she came Aug 6. But don't freak. I kind of knew things were happening because I had prodromal labor for literally almost a week before. I think that "prepared my body" so that when I finally went, I went fast. I actually had my mom fly in early because I just knew I was going to go early.

At the same time, I also assumed that I would have a very long labor like my first, so that almost bit me in the butt. SO just err on the side of caution.
