1. How do you kill your crustacean?
2. How does you prepare them? With drawn butter, in lobster salad, in pasta...?
Lobsters must be eaten at home.

Ooh I don't prepare lobster. That's a go out to eat and let the chef deal with it kind of thing!

Steam them in very salty water (that's the secret!!) for about 17 minutes, depending on size. Serve with lemon wedges.
We also eat a lot of lobster salad: lobster, minced celery, squeeze of lemon, tiny bit of mayo.
Mmm, I love lobster!!

My favorite is stir fried lobster in butter and herbs. It's sooo good and usually there's residual butter left over from the stir fry that you can dip bread into.

If you're squeamish about cooking them, a lot of fish mongers will steam for you.

I like it the Chinese restaurant style, stir-fry in a ginger sauce.

@oliviaoblivia: not at all. I'm curious if I'm supposed to kill them first, then steam? Or steam alive.

I think the way they are doing it now is putting a knife through the back of the head and then throwing them in boiling water right away. I saw it on Master Chef lol

Alton Brown says to stick them in the freezer for a few mins (10? 15?) before steaming them so that way they're semi-unconcious? I've never done it that way... I just toss them in and try to ignore their sad, sad lobster claws scratching against the pot. And their cries... the CRIES!!

I don't eat lobster, but funny story: My dad wanted lobster for his birthday so my mom bought one that morning from the grocery store and the grocer said that it would be fine in the carton in the fridge until dinner. But my dad felt bad for it and wanted it to not be too stressed out before it died so he filled the sink up with water and plopped it in to let it swim free until dinner time. Then he and my mom went out. When they got back... dead lobster. (Lobsters don't like fresh water... he'd inadvertently prematurely murdered his lobster and had to go buy another, lol)

Steam them in just a couple inches of water (they will get soggy and gross if boiled). Or, use beer instead of water. I like mine with drawn butter but if your lobster is fresh enough you won't need it :). If making lobster salad all you need is mayo, celery, and a tiny bit of lemon on a buttered roll.

@locavore_mama: he swears there is a difference but I can never tell I may have told you this, but lobster is not my favorite thing in the world. Such a shame really, since I can truly have it any time I want. Lol.

for my bday this year, DH bought lobster tails (so obviously didn't have to kill them) and broiled them wrapped in foil with butter, red wine and fresh tarragon...OMG DELICIOUS!
