I'm not great at doing her hair but this was super easy and she loved it.

wow. I need to learn how to braid. I'll admit I've even watch some youtube videos. I feel like kim kardashian who actually had to go to someone to physically teach her how to braid.
Ive had a pixie haircut all of my adult life and never braided my sisters hair either. And of course my kid's hair is down past her shoulder blades at two years old.
Maybe I should get one of those fake head/hair mannequins! (sorta serious, its impossible to teach yourself on a 2 year old who won't sit still)

We do hair daily, but usually not fancy stuff. My oldest likes side ponytails, two braids, high ponytail, high bun, or messy top knot. I attempted a high chignon for her Cinderella birthday, and down and curly with a bow.
My youngest only gets down with a bow or half up with a bow because it's still short, haha.

We're just getting into hair styles. I feel so lost because my first is a boy. My dad said she looked like my favorite martian .

@ShootingStar: The spouts are my favorite! DD gets two pigtails like that, or a little whale spout on top of her head. It's almost long enough now that I can do a half ponytail.

Yup, two girls with hair! They both get it done daily as they don't like it in their faces. I do a lot of braiding. I've never been able to master a clean bun.

@Littlebit7: Yes!!!!
This thread is adorable, but also giving me anxiety !!! DD hates things in her hair right now, but I imagine at some point she'll want braids (if we keep it long) and I'll have to figure it out!

How do you all get your kiddos to sit still?? Lo1 sometimes lets me touch her hair but most the time I'm lucky to get a clip in so that it at least stays out of her eyes.

@nana87: I usually do it just before bed. If I have to do something more detailed, I will bribe her with watching a video while I work on her hair. Plus, she has really started liking how her hair works when we do it, so I don't have to fight it anymore.

@bhbee: Sooo cute!
@ShootingStar: Haha, I have a ton of pictures like this too!
@Anagram: Two girls! Love it!
@Ajsmommy: The ponytail is my go-to most days.

@MrsBrewer: they were both born with full heads of hair. It's kind of funny.

@nana87: daily conditioning. LO2 is pretty strong willed but I just kept doing it very day until she realized we will be sitting and doing hair before we leave. Her hair is extreme in the morning though---like total out of control wild rat's nest, so so have to wet it and spray in product to look presentable. Now she asks for a bow in the morning before breakfast to keep her hair out of her eyes.
Our oldest is just laid back and has never minded me doing her hair. She requests special things now, which is cute.

@nana87: I get mine to sit still by letting her pick her style- she likes Elsa hair (one braid), Anna hair (two braids), piggy ponyhairs (pigtails), or bundle (messy bun). Then if she wiggles I remind her that I will have to start all over again and waste her minutes on sitting longer. She also really wants me to start doing extreme fancy braids that look complicated so she is showing me that she can be still so I will do those for preschool.

My LO used to sit still watching a video when she was younger but now she will just sit because she likes her hair down. I loved doing her hair when it was longer . Cute Girl Hairstyles is a great resource on youtube and IG. Spray bottle was my best tool.

You ladies are so talented! I've done a little braiding here and there, but wow, I need to up my hair game! How to you keep their hair from getting messed up? My daughter has superfine but curly hair and if I do two french braids, for example, it gets mussed and fuzzy pretty quickly. Even a simple pony with a barrette always falls out by the time I pick her up from daycare at the end of the day.

@nana87: when she was younger, tv all the way. Minnie wears a bow, so that helped her to keep a bow in all day as well.

@lamariniere: mine looks like a hot mess when I pick her up and she actually let me do her hair that day. I did a braid the other day and when I picked her up, half of it had fallen out.

@lamariniere: spray gel and bobby pins. Like just a couple shoved in and a few spritzes around the edges. I don't shellac it or anything.

Does anyone have daughters with shorter hair? My 4 year old has super thick hair, and we've been cutting it shorter because until just recently, she has refused to keep anything in her hair and it would be in her face and making her cranky. The last couple months she's become more receptive to soft headbands and occasional pigtails, but her hair seems to be growing more thick rather than longer/down.

I just use a water spray bottle at the beginning for damp hair. It usually gets messy by the end of the day. LO chopped her hair and is now shoulder length so no more nice long braids for awhile. I was able to do this style the first week of school. Still learning so so stuck some bobby pins in to hold it. My friend challenged me to do a centipede braid last year. I'll see if I can dig up a pic of that.

@Mamaof2: She didn't do it herself but she was the only one if the family who wanted her hair short and insisted. This was right before Christmas but now she wants to grow it again! But she did cut half of her front hair into bangs once when she was in preschool. Hehe!! Not on my watch. DH was home. It was immediately fixable, except that she had bangs.

@Mamaof2: Haha!!!! Can you imagine?? #crazygirlhairstyles
I think she partly wanted me to stop messing with her hair and she partly wanted to look like the girl across the street. It really saves me time in the morning when she (hairstylist) cut it short bc I didn't have to do her hair for 10 mins.

@808love: @Mamaof2: we went through the exact same thing about the same time. My girl was tired of me messing with her hair and so many of her classmates had shorter hair. It's since grown back a fair amount and she's ready to chop 4-5 inches again. I'm not!!

@MamaG: Her hair grows so fast!!
Loving these pics!!! I got LO a huge hair bow this year and I'm surprised it actually stays on in her thin hair. I think bc I never did/do my hair..... I love doing LOs hair. Making up for lost time.

I attempted a heart braid last night (I was feeling inspired by all this talk...) and it turned out ok. I need more practice. I have to do LeLe's hair for a wedding this weekend and I have been practicing it for weeks now. Hopefully it will turn out well.

@808love: Same, I always had short hair and a hair challenged mom. LO1 has amazingly thick straight beautiful hair and I must do something with it all the time.
