Have not posted in a long time, and I think last time was about possible relocation too. My DH and I live in a suburb of NYC but he has the potential for a great job opportunity in Little Rock. That seems like a whole different world to me, so I was wondering if there were any Little Rock (or AR bees at all) that could give insight into what it’s like, best suburbs, etc.

Compared to NYC, LR is a whole different world.
I live in TX now, but am originally from LR.
It’s a livable city and has changed a lot even in the 10 years I’ve been gone. It’s probably not as multicultural as NYC. Places to check out would be Benton/Bryant, Maumelle, Chenal, and Sherwood. If schools are a consideration, some of those areas will fare much better than others.

@tbuzz: Hey! I wrote back and I guess my post got eaten! Really any advice is greatly appreciated. My biggest concern would be a culture shock - we are pretty liberal people and I am wondering if that is the norm there as well? Also we are very used to having access to lots of stores and am wondering how built up the suburbs are.

@bloved: prepare for a culture shock. Little Rock will be both very conservative politically (It’s in the Bible Belt) and it will lack shopping opportunities when compared to NYC. You’ll have access to most typical chain shopping and a lot less traffic. Memphis, NWA and OKC have a few more options and they aren’t that far away. Lastly, Dallas is a nice weekend trip with tons of shopping if you want to feel the vibe of a larger city.
