Okay, first world problems here.

I just found out Daniel Tiger Live is coming to our city right after my daughters 4th Birthday. And until tomorrow tickets are 50% off. But the promo does not work on VIP Meet and greet tickets.
My daughter has never met a live figure like that IRL. And I'm unsure how she will react. She might be shy and take a picture and tell me she loved it afterwards. Or she might cry and refuse to take a picture with him.

The VIP tickets would be almost double the regular tickets with the 50% promo.

Has your 3-4 year met a life size cartoon character before? How did s/he do?

Gahhhh I'm so excited!!!!

ETA: she L-o-v-e-s DT. She requested a Daniel tiger birthday cake two years in a row. She asked to be DT for Halloween. You get the picture.

If she loves him that much I would go for the meet and greet. My LO is terrified of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, etc. but she loves Mickey Mouse. We were really torn when Disney on Ice came to town about whether she would love it because it was Mickey or be terrified because it was a character in real life. She LOVED it. Screamed down at the ice for the characters to "come closer!!"

I would splurge for a character she loves that much. Maybe bring it up like "do you want to meet him someday".

I didn't even know Daniel Tiger Live was a thing!?! Is the 50% off something through the city offering the show?

Now, to answer your question.... My kids have never met characters they cared about live. I think they would probably love it if they saw Daniel & Friends!

Oh man! I would totally splurge and do the meet-and-greet. I think by age 4 you can try and prep her for the big meeting so that she doesn't freak out, and make sure she observes other kids meet/take pics with DT before it is her turn.

We see large characters very often though as we go to Disneyland every couple weeks. DD was terrified and then magically one day when she was about 2-2.5, she started wanting to meet them all. Now, she loooooves it.

Unless you want it to be a surprise, maybe you can show her actual pictures of kids and the meet-and-greet sized DT and asks her what she thinks/tell her she will meet him.

I would splurge for the meet and greet. E met Cinderella and Rapunzel at 3 years old and was AMAZED and in love. She also met Elmo and Sesame Street characters at the Sesame Street live meet and greet at around 16 months and loved it/them too!

@regberadaisy: my LO met Daniel Tiger this year! He was at the pbs table at our book festival. Like you I was not sure how she would do but she shook his hand and stood next to him for a picture. Then she was done and ready to move on.

So it was fun for her but didn't last long and I am not sure I would have paid for it. I am also not sure what the meet and greet would entail beyond a greeting and photo?

I guess I would think about how excited she would see about seeing the show period, them how much difference the meet and greet would make with her excitement, and then if it is worth the financial difference. Sounds like it will be great either way!

@mauxie: @MamaCate: @yoursilverlining: she's been going through a shy/stranger danger phase for quite a while now. I can see her being shy and quiet and willing to take a picture after some coaxing. I can see her getting scared and start crying if we try to force the issue. DH's immediate thought is the latter and I kinda agree with him.
According to ticketing it's a post show meet & greet, a photo opportunity and a poster. LOL So...waiting in line for probably an hour for 5 minutes. Regular tickets are $17/pp with the discount. No discount for the VIP so it will be $50/pp! So...that's triple the price for a maybe chance that she won't freak out. I'm leaning towards the $17 tickets.

@MamaCate: that's the thing. I think she will be SO besides herself just seeing him in person! I don't think by the end of the show (6:30pm show) it will be a good idea to be waiting in line for pictures either. It'll be on a weekday too.

@mauxie: if we bought the meet and greet I would definitely prep her. But she has a wicked memory so I kinda a) want it to be a birthday surprise and b) don't want to tell her so I don't have to deal with 5 months of are we going this week to see DT??? Lol

I think the meet and greet would be fun. M can be pretty shy/skittish too and had a bad reaction when meeting a Minnie this summer. But then we took her to Sesame Place a week later and by the third character she was telling us "by myself" and would go up to them and hug them. It was so cute and I was so glad she warmed up so quickly. She'll be three next week.

@regberadaisy: D loooooooves Mickey Mouse, and was all excited to be in the same room with him (actually yelling hi at him while Mickey was interacting with another little girl) when we were in Disney World, but when it was his turn to actually talk to him and get his picture taken, he buried his face in my neck and wouldn't even look at him.

As an aside, thanks for the code for the discount! Hubs wants to take D for his 3rd birthday but we haven't gotten the tickets yet. This will push us to do it. Thanks!

@MamaCate: I'm pretty sure we're going with the regular tickets. I'm really not convinced she will be OK with meeting him up close and personal. Not worth the risk for that big of a price difference! She's never seen a live character like this in person. TBH the first time I saw one as a preteen at Six Flags, I found them a bit intimidating! LOL

@littlebug: I hope the code works for you! I was just about to purchase until the darn $30 in convenience fees! Going to see if DH can stop by the box office this week. The code definitely does not work on the VIP tickets, FYI.

@littlebug: oh boo! But yeah, the code came from my venue newsletter. maybe see if yours has anything for cyber week or the holidays? It's coming to the arts theater at my college so I asked to see if they had alumni discounts.

I got the tickets! I got the tickets! I'm sooo stoked!!!!

@regberadaisy: I would probably just get regular tickets too... I'm so excited for you! We are debating what to do for our kids... The one location and time that works for us is right around my due date so if we would get tickets I need to be ok with the fact that grandparents would probably end up taking them...

I'm sure you will have a blast!!!

Eek I'm so excited!!! I hope her DT sweatshirt, tiger pants and red converse still fit by then!!!

@regberadaisy: it can go both ways. my daughter is absolutely in love with / obsessed w/Anna from Frozen, so for her 3rd party, I hired an entertainment company and they sent an Anna and Elsa to sing and play with the kids for 2 hours. I thought she would be over the moon, but instead it totally backfired - she freaked out and got the worst stage fright at seeing at her "idol" in person and pretty much spent her entire party crying and hiding. It was so sad!! The other kids were super excited though I was pretty bummed because it was expensive as hell, and her reaction wasn't quite what I expected. But, all isn't lost because she loves to look back at pictures and talk about when Anna came to her birthday party So just be warned, that it might be overwhelming and could lead to a complete meltdown...

@regberadaisy: I had no idea this was a thing! DD loves Daniel Tiger and it has recently surpassed her love of Minnie! They are coming to our town, so I am definitely going to get tickets!
