I am skeptical because the original is such a classic. I don't see why a remake is necessary.

As much as I like Carrie Underwood's singing I will skip this. Not a fan of remakes. Not a fan of musicals.

OK - I adore the Sound of Music and don't know how I feel about this remake, but I'm totally going to DVR it (won't be home to watch). It's also being shot right in my home town, so I feel like I have to tune in!

@ElbieKay: Yes I know its gotten a lot of bad reviews simply because no one can replace Julie Andrews but I like the "live" aspect!
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I love musicals! Glee anyone? lol
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@Mamaof2: I've never seen an episode. I YouTube'd Gwenyth Paltrow's scenes the first time she guess starred. I think Hello, Dolly is a musical. I like that one.

@Mamaof2: I am super excited to watch. So is dh. I am not actually a Carrie Underwood fan in the least, but I love musicals and live theater.

I can't wait! Like they said, they aren't trying to remake The Sound of Music. They are making a tv version of the stage production.
I watched the "making of" also and I fell in love with the littlest girl. I think it is so awesome that they had an open call and didn't go with kids already in Broadway.

Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies, but I've never seen the stage production. If it were supposed to be a remake of the movie, I'd be annoyed, but my understanding was that it was just the stage production, so I might tune in.

Meh. I'd rather watch the original, but I could see watching this anyway. Maybe I will dvr it and watch while nursing. Lo does like singing.

I'm so excited! And I don't even like Carrie Underwood!
@MrsHotDog: I'm obsessed with the girl who is playing Liesel!

I'm excited. We have plans tonight so I will DVR it. I don't think Carrie will match the magic Julie had, but I still think it is neat they are doing a live production on TV. I love the songs.

I'm not watching, but I saw an interview with Julie Andrews about a month ago and she was so not into it and obviously was very irritated about it. I thought it was kind of funny to see her kinda huffy about it!

I guess I don't really get why live productions on TV are any more engaging for anyone than just watching regular TV. It's one thing if you're there to see it live in person (Nothing quite like that!), but if you already are watching it on a screen why not just watch the classic original? lol

We don't have a DVR/cable, so we will have to watch live. What time does it start? I'm in CST. It's on NBC right?
pomelo / 5257 posts
I'm DVRing it! My H has never even seen The Sound of Music so I think it will be fun to watch together I don't really get why people are upset about this show. It's a musical. It's been performed thousands of times on countless stages since it was written in the 1950s. All "classic" theater is performed more than one time with different casts -- why is this version different just because it's also being broadcast live on TV? I actually think that's pretty cool!

I'm going to watch it! Love the sound of music... I'm ok with it being different than the movie and I think the live aspect is really cool!

I love musicals and this sounds like fun! I will try to put it on, but it's up to LO how much I will actually see
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
@MrsSCB: I agree! Why does it have to be a competition? Julie Andrews doesn't own the Sound of Music... it's been performed as a live show all over the world. This is just one more adaptation.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@MamaMoose: Right? She wasn't in the first stage version, so it's not like she's even the "first" Maria. I always like to see different interpretations of musicals and plays -- I feel like that's a big part of the fun of theater

I love Carrie and I will watch! I have the making of DVRed. I of course love the original Julie Andrews movie version, but I've never seen the stage production. I love musicals and going to the theater!

Fun fact:
My grandfather owned a shoe store in Vermont and the real Maria von Trapp bought shoes there regularly. Also, my grandmother broke her ankle and it wouldn't heal and Maria gave my grandmother some advice to take some vitamin supplements to make it heal faster and it did.
I'm liking it so far. It's different, but since it's based off the play I can handle it. Lol.

Enjoying it well enough so far...Carrie is no Julie bit that is not a surprise, and I love Carrie lol

Carrie's singing is great. Her acting is not.
The set looks like the set of passions. I thought that and saw a tweet by someone else saying the same thing like 30 seconds later.

Plus these walmart commercials make my uterus hurt. How many kids does this lady have. Yowzers.

@dagret: haaaaaaahahaha re: Walmart commercial. I thought the same thing

@dagret: I just flipped it on, and the acting is a little tough to watch

Loving the music, not the acting. But its one of my favorite musicals so I am loving it.

You can tell carrie isn't an actress by any means but I think she is doing okay! I'm really enjoying it so far.

I had to turn it off. My cable box was playing a trick on me and didn't let me change the channel so I reseted it lol. Take that cable box!

I thought the singing was great - the acting, a little painful. I always feel that musicals are like that though (and I still love musicals). I enjoyed it!
pomelo / 5509 posts
I enjoyed the singing, but I thought Carrie's acting was kind of cringe-worthy. So awkward!
